Dead Rat in the pool
By MikeJ, 07/04/08
I stayed in Port Inn for 4 days three nights. July 1,2,3. I had my small children ages 4,6, 9 with me the whole time. During our stayed we used the outdoor pool at least 9 times. Pool opens 9:00 am and closes 10:00 pm. During idle hours they claim they clean the pool everyday. This morning 9:30 am my kids wanted to go for one last swim. Unfortunately, this turned out to be the worst experience. There was a dead dead swollen rat in the pool filter. I am extremely concerned. My kids swallowed water, swam in that water. Right now, I am sick to my stomach just thinking what health hazards might happen. I brought up my concern while checking out and asked them to shut down the pool. The reply I got was "You are all set, you already paid, have a nice day". Manager didn't come out to speak with us, they didn't even apologize.

Excellent place
By Val R., 06/19/08
Have stayed here on several occasions and found it to be charming. Very comfortable and staff is extremely friendly. Fridge and microwave available in many rooms. Located close to shopping, beaches and Portsmouth town center. If you are in the Portsmouth area I highly recommend The Port Inn. Reservations good idea for summer and fall.

One person made it not as good...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/03/08
We stayed at this little motel before and fell in love with both it and the staff. Nadeen, Skip and Tish as well as Annie in housekeeping were all helpful during that stay. Annie kept our room clean and is really a sweet lady to chat with. Skip is awesome in directing one to places to go. And Tish always had a warm welcome for us even in the early morning hours. She had told us about the package special they do during the winter months, so we decided to try it out. At check in Skip was there, same as ever. The room was as clean and comfortable as ever. But when we went to get coffee for my friend, and tea for me, we were disappointed to find the coffee lukewarm at best and there was only one kind of tea. An orange blend. Lots of empty slots however. It was after midnight and the man at the desk didn't seem inclined to do anything so we decided that we would just make do until morning. Saturday morning we came in around 9am for breakfast. Imagine our dismay when the teas still hadn't been filled (there was only two tea bags left now) and their wasn't the normal lay out of breakfast stuff. The area was dirty as well and the man behind the desk seemed more interested in talking on the telephone and flirting with the young girls then doing his job. We were very disappointed. But we had paid for two nights, so we went out to breakfast and then on to our plans. When we got back that night, just after 11pm we were happy to find Tish at the desk saying goodbye to Skip. Still no tea, but when I said something to her, she immedately came over, apoligized (though it was hardly her fault, she just got there) and opened a drawer (yes, there were boxes of tea in the drawer it was that easy) and refilled the holder. We were joined by the lady upstairs who was upset that her room hadn't been clean and that she hadn't been able to get hot coffee since she had been there. Tish got everything and everyone settled without making us feel she was put out. I would have been if I came in to a mess like that. But she was very professional and she made no excuses. I like that. I also like how she greets everyone by name. It's a little thing. But it really makes you feel like you are a welcome guest when the person behind the desk smiles at you, greets you and focuses on you, not other stuff. The next morning I came in a little before seven and the breakfast set up was as I remembered from last summer. Immaculately clean, well stocked and the coffee was hot. But when I came back with my friend later in the morning, the man was on again and the quality of the breakfast area had deteoriated. (but the teas were at least filled) We tried to check out and once agin were made to feel that he had better things to do then to serve the guests. It's sad but that one employee tainted what was to be good weekend for us. While Skip and Tish did shine, and she did correct what she could and tried to make up for the laspe, I still felt that I should be truthful in noting that even the best property is only as good as all the people it employes. This hotel is still a good place. And it has some very good people working there. I still recommend it. Hopefully the lackluster employees will either learn from those around them or find employment elsewhere before they destroy the reputation of this hotel.

sparkling place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/13/07
I met two high school friends for 2 nights. They upgraded us to their 2 bedroom suite which was immaculate. Their grounds are beautifully landscaped for maximum privacy and the pool area is clean and nicely planted. We absolutely loved this little gem.

I love this Inn. It is the cleanest most comfortable hotel that I have been to. It is charming and great rates! I always look forward to staying here. The bathrooms are nice and the breakfast is great. This is what home away from home feels like.
