Donner Lake Village Resort, Truckee

The location of this resort is beautiful and fishing great right off the dock. But the rooms are a disgrace. Carpets and furniture are filthy. Place smells. Very rude office staff. We were told rooms were remodeled. I guess they were in the '60s. And at 10:00, owners of a unit were pounding on the wall for us to keep it down. The kids were giggling and we had the tv on. They kept pounding on the walls and the night manager called us to keep it down. We were not being loud. So, for almost $200 a night we had to turn our tv to almost mute and tell the kids to quit laughing. My husband was getting mad and almost went next door to belt the guy. We heard great things about a resort down the street called Loch Leven Lodge. We will stay there next time.

We were supposed to stay at Richards Motel checked it out and my husband didn't like it due to poor condition of the place.Anyways we noticed that theres another resort just across the street from Richards Motel which is DONNER LAKE VILLAGE RESORT and we are so glad we choose this one, friendly staff, nice room "our room is themed and i believe its all about coca-cola and cow" which was pretty odd at first but later on appreciate it, the frozen lake was breath taking.15 mins away from safeway, rite aid and starbucks ",) cant wait to go there summertime im sure the lake is gonna be wonderful!

Donner Lake is a beautiful place, both in the summer and winter. So if you're in the area for any amount of time, stop by the Donner Lake Village Resort in Truckee, California. The rooms are very nice, and you are in close proximity to all the important things in Truckee. Try driving up the road and you'll end up halfway up a mountain overlooking Donner Lake. It's a beautiful view!!

Stayed there in Feb 2005 for a weekend. The rooms were very comfortable and well-decorated. The decor varies, as they are privately-owned condos, ours was nice and comfortable. Much better than a typical hotel room. Even the hallways had antique photos of the Truckee area, with explanations. Resort is less than 10 minutes from Boreal, Donner Ski Ranch, and Sugar Bowl, plus a snow park for sledding ($5 parking fee). Just up the road a mile or so is a Donner Lake Kitchen - go there for breakfast and get the home fried potatoes - the best! 10 minutes away is a shopping center with a 24 hour Safeway, in case you need supplies, plus Starbucks, banks, hardware, etc. We stayed in a studio room (queen bed, sleeper sofa, kitchen, bath). Adequate for 2 adults and 2 kids, but a larger unit would be nicer (none were available for the dates we needed). Resort is right on the lake.
