Lost its glory days
By ,
I came here the first time in the mid 80's for my 21st birthday on a bus trip, I had won a game of bingo on the bus and when I arrived at the Horizon I popped some of the quarters I had won and in 2 minutes I had won $800.00! I have always held this memory and each time I returned it became more and more sad, no more shows, games disappeared to the point of a ghost town, there is a weird energy when you walk through like a person very SLOWLY dying. Either perform some life saving technics or pull the plug. It makes me sick that they are just bleeding it dry and offering new guests an awful experience that will leave a poor image. I am so sad that my memory has lost its luster. Please save a once wonderful place, it deserves it.

i will never go back!!!!!!!!!!!!
By ,
This place was very dirty with stained carpets in the halls, filthy elevators and trash on the floors. I saw the same bits of trash on the floors the whole 3 days i was there. The Wi-fi never did work and ONLY after MANY complaints did we get a refund. The wi-fi technician was rude and discourteous. The tv reception was marginal on a 15 year old tv. The bathroom had cracks in the counter and the towels were like sandpaper. The floors in the room obviously were not vacumed. The floor on the balcony was stained and dirty.

Horizon Staff we are on our way back!
By ,
The Horizon has always been the greatest place to stay in Tahoe. Took my son for his first trip and the staff treated us like we were celebrities. We saw a show and my son and I will never forget the people we met, the food was fabulous and the gaming was great not alot of tables and slots but who wants to rub elbows with the person next to you. Love it. By the way we won the whole time we were there. I have tried other hotels in the past but can say for the last 10 years it has been the Horizon hotel for me and my family. Clean, friendly staff, great entertainment, extremly safe environment. I plan on making this my 11th year to visit the Horizon hotel and I am beyond a doubt sure I will enjoy it.

GOING OUT OF BUSINESS???
By ,
Don't even bother with the Horizon as it looks as though they are on their last leg. We were just up in Tahoe on Jan. 1,2 2010 and walked into the Horizon and what a shame. No tables anymore and very few machines on the floor now. Looks more like a convention room than a casino. Bill's Casino across the street is all closed up and it looks as the Horizon is following. This place is like a ghost town which is sad because I suppose the Indian Casinos are taking over. Actually even though Tahoe is gorgeous their are very few shows anymore of which could help bringing people to stateline. Tahoe casinos are overpriced, overrated and just plain boring anymore. Save your money for Vegas or an Indian Casino that actually has superstars and shows that are not has beens. I've been going to Tahoe for 40 years and this is the worst I've seen with this area, VERY DISAPPOINTING

Helps to read reviews
By ,
Goodness where do I begin? I was skeptical at first when I read the reviews and said to myself it couldn't be that bad. Oh was I wrong! For the amount of money we paid to stay at Horizon for 4 days, we expected our room to be clean. Well, there were dirty towels on the floor and the toilet still had someone's poop left behind. We complained to the front desk and we expected more. The front desk woman changed our rooms , it was much better. I do agree with Shelness, the other hotels are $100 more! if you can afford it, STAY at Harveys or Harrahs. But if you're not into gaming and can manage with little dining, HORIZON would be best. Hoever,The dining and entertainment was SAD/ DEPRESSING! What I mean by this is the four seasons restuarants and Josep dining were empty and the employees appeared to not want to be working because there were no customers. Without customers they cant make their money.Regardless, we ate at both places, just us and no one else. The food was GREAT! Majority of the stuff in the gift shop was over price. we werent there for gaming so it didnt matter to us. However, the Opal Club in Montbleu --TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! The first night we were there was women drink free all night. They had two bartenders, and one of them (blond chic with the curly perm hair) ignored my friends and served everyone else. When she was asked"why didnt you ask us if we were being served instead you ignored us to serve other gurls especially when we've been tip out $5-$10. She ofcourse, apologized and walked away to talk to the other bartender and didnt come back to serve us! We complained to her manager, who worked at the front door. The Vex Club at Harrahs was even WORST! The security guys at the door spend way too much time flirty with gurls at the door instead of moving the line along so people can actually get into the club. It happened again the second night, and I personally complained to their manager who also worked at the front door. And whe had had a hard time believing me, I video it on my cell and showed him! Seriously, what happened to GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE??Whats worst about this club is that regardless of the FACT that you have the VEX stamp on your arm or they give you this ticket that says VEX, you still have to SHOW THEM YOUR I.D. everytime you leave the club to use the bathroom plus they do NOT have a separate LINE to re-enter! YOu have to wait in the same line as other people who are trying to get into the club. IF YOU WANT GREATNESS, you SHOULD make the DRIVE TO RENO!!!! ALL THESE PLACES especially the CLUBS need to go back to the basics and get continous training on customer service and professionalism

Bad Reviews...you are SO WRONG!!!
By ,
The Horizon Casino Resort was an excellent value (more than $100 less per night than the other casinos). Not luxurious, but if I paid $100 more to stay at the other casinos, I wouldn't have had the disposable income to enjoy what Lake Tahoe has to offer. People...you eat, sleep, and poop at whatever hotel you stay at...so if it's clean, has good food, and a working/clean toilet...the Horizon is a great place. I noticed that everyone is saying how they wished the casino offered more gaming options...IF YOU PEOPLE ACTUALLY PLAYED MORE, THEN THE CASINO WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO REDUCE THEIR GAME OPTIONS!!! Does anyone realize how Indian Gaming has affected the economy of South Lake Tahoe??? PEOPLE STOP BEING STUPID AND SHORT SIGHTED!!! Horizon, great job in keeping the place clean, safe, AND AFFORDABLE!!! The staff is excellent also!!!

Worst experience ever!
By ,
This has been the worst trip I have ever taken and its all due to this hotel. Lesson learned: Never buy tickets through websites for this hotel. First problem: This hotel ended up charging me twice for my stay. Once through hotels.com and the other through my credit card when I checked in and they knew that I had a room reserved but went ahead and charged me twice for some reason. Second Problem: I reserved a lake-view room through the phone but when I arrived I received a parking lot view. Third Problem: When I got home, I checked with my credit card companies and I saw two charges for rooms and some other mysterious charges appeared that the hotel had neither notified me about nor given me a receipt for. Called up hotels.com and they fixed the issue about the two room charges. Called up Horizon Casino Resort and they said they "do not see a charge on my credit card." After hours of waiting on hold and talking to every lazy employee in the whole building, they finally connected me to accounting. Then the accounting lady said that she would "look into it and call me back." Never received her call. I called Horizon a few days later and went through the same process until I got hold of accounting again. For an hour, she pretended that there was no charge and she couldn't see it, then she gave in and said that she sees the charge but she wanted proof from the credit card company?? The hotel was clean and there was room cleaning everyday. The room wasn't anything special. I would have given a better review if I didn't have to go through all this trouble to get my money back. Overall, this was not worth the time nor the money as you can tell and currently I am still in the process of trying to get my money back. Wish me luck.

Abused and neglected.
By ,
Hotel needed a paint job inside and out. Hotel needed a resurface job in the parking lot. The windows needed cleaning. The room needed repairs. The casino was nice. The restaurant was good!

Don't even THINK about staying here... anymore...
By ,
Horizon used to be my favorite casino because it was mellow, had mechanical derby horse racing and good blackjack. I was there a few months ago and it was fun as usual. However, I went back in early July and the whole place had been dismantled. It looked as if they were about to close. I pulled into the vacant parking lot and said, hmm, what is going on? I walked through the vacant lobby and into the casino. Low and behold, all of the table games and most of the slots had been removed. Fortunately, they cancelled my reservation and I went home. Horizon - you destroyed a fun place in Tahoe. Until you restore it to its prior, fun, condition, I will not set foot in the place or recommend it to any friends. Shame on you. Is the economy really that bad? I'll give them one star for cancelling my reservation without a hassle.
