Best Western Kirkwood Inn, Kirkwood

We liked the location in the St Louis suburb of Kirkwood. There is a Chili's restaurant connected to the hotel itself. Also, there is a Wal-Mart within walking distance just across the parking lot. Standard Best Western fare...good, clean room and friendly, professional staff. The only drawback was it is in a busy area, a main thoroughfare with alot of traffic.

Do not stay at this hotel! There are a number of things that really aren't up to par. First, it is really noisy! The walls are so thin that you can hear the televisions of the rooms next to you. Also you can hear the noisy cleaning staff. The cleaning staff is on the floor all day long! They start about 8 in the morning and they are still there at 8 in the evening! So with all that cleaning you would think that the rooms are extra clean right? Wrong. There was hair in the bathtub when we checked in. The place overall is kind of a dump. Everything is old. You can see where they sloppily tried to fix things but it is just all surface stuff like paint and grout. And they did a terrible job with that. If you are on the side of the building with Chili's be prepared for restaurant stink! Not to mention the lovely dumpster that sits right outside. When we checked in the air conditioner was on in the room. Which is weird because it is February. The air conditioner stinks. I can't really describe the smell. It almost burns your nostrils. When the heat comes on it smells a little too but not as bad as the air conditioner. And speaking of stinky you can tell the bedding has been washed because the smell of the antiseptic laundry soap is overwhelming. The internet is spotty and really SLOW! If you have work to get done like I did expect it to take twice as long. And finally the front desk staff was really rude when we requested a late checkout. (Not that I really wanted to stay longer but my husband's seminar unexpectedly ran late.) It's fine if they don't have late checkout but there is a different way to say it other than, "No and if you're here at 2 I'll charge you for another day." There are a couple of semi positives. The location is good. It is right in front of Wal-Mart, Target and several other stores and restaurants. However, as I mentioned earlier the walls are thin so you hear all of the traffic noise of people going to those places. The only other positive is that the tv had a lot of channels. However, many of them were really fuzzy. Overall, consider yourself warned about staying at this hotel. And if you pay full price you are a complete fool! We got it at a reduced price and I felt like we paid about 3 times too much for this dump.

The place seemed great as you walk up and into the lobby. The young man at the front desk was a little slow. I think he had two speeds, slow and stop. After he got everything checked in he just hands me keys. So i ask him, which way to the room, he says the elevator is over there, it's on the second floor. I was kind of expecting the best door to go and and best place to park for where my room was, like most hotels do. So we get the bags out of the car and head back in the hotel and go up the steps in the lobby. Our friendly front desk man was behind us and fell up the steps twice (he was not hurt). When we get to the second floor there were some other guest there so they let us know which way the rooms were and we got there with no problem. There just wasn't a sign at the top of the steps directing room numbers. we get in our non smoking room and it smelled like smoke other than that it seemed fine. There were only a couple other issues, there was a big nasty hair on the ceiling in the shower, and if you closed the drain on the sink, it was nearly impossible to get back up. I had to pry it open. I am sure a front desk call would have gotten someone up to the room to fix it without any problems. we were leaving the next day and not in the hotel much so it wasn't a big deal for us at that time. The only other thing is not only our room smelled like smoke, the whole area we were in smelled like smoke. the lobby and the hallway to our room. I would reccomend that they put the non smoking rooms on a different floor than the bar is on. I am giving it an average rating because it is cheep. and you can't expect much for the price.

We have stayed here several times due to the location needs and they accept pets. They have limited rooms that will allow pets so be sure and call ahead and make sure one is available. It is an older hotel but, has been well maintained. Although, the beds desperately need to be updated they are very hard.If that is what you like then you will be pleased. The staff for the most part are helpful some better than others. There is a Chili's restaurant connected that does provide room service. There are numerous shopping areas near by. Some of the rooms do have refrigerators and microwave but, be sure and make your request known when reserving. Internet is provided at no extra charge.

I have stayed at quite a few hotels before, and I am not picky. The ladies at the front desk were unbelievably friendly. You need to give them girls a raise! This hotel had every room booked, and you were treated like you were the only one there. Chilis next door was awesome! They treated us like VIPs, and it was a good place to relax, drink a beer, and watch a game on tv while taking in some late night munchies. Only thing ...could use an indoor pool, but the outdoor one was nice, just a bit cold for me

My wife and I have traveled most of our lives and we're seniors. We had reservations in S. St. Louis at a Holiday Inn for the weekend which turned out to be a disaster due to a "romper room" busses loads of high schoolers moving into our "Quiet Hotel" (which is what the staff claimed). We left abruptly left and drove to Kirkwood and found this Best Western by accident. We stayed the 2 nights and have NEVER BEEN TREATED BETTER AT A MOTEL. The two ladies behind the counter could not have been friendlier or more accomodating. The stay was quiet and clean and the price was reasonable. It is also an excellent location with a shopping center right behind the motel. Even the housekeeping staff was friendly. Thank you Best Western for what all travelers look for in a motel experience. I have been there now twice in the last month. I have really enjoyed it both times. I am going back this week again for work. I am staying a week at a time. The service is great. The ladies that have been at the front desk while I am there are friendly and great. My room is always nice. I have been asking for a room with a small refrigerator and microwave since I am staying a week at a time. This way I can eat in my room and save some money that way. The breakfast that is free is great too. I would recommend this hotel to my friends.

The stay was quiet on the top floor but the balancy is not very large so if you have small children that can open doors ask for a lower floor. The hot breakfast was good and tasty. The location is great! Close to great resturants, like Racanelli's and shoping centers.

Don't reserve a room here if you're expecting your room to have the refrigerator or microwave as described in "amenities", because they don't have them. Also, don't plan on your kids enjoying the game room, because it doesn't exist. Best to make a point to inquire on things by phone rather than to rely on advertising!
