NASTY
By ,
This was the SICKEST place I have ever seen, and I can't believe that it is legally open. It is a health hazard. There were bugs everywhere and a stale stinch permeated everything. The owner was AWFUL and only seemed to want money. It would have been better to sleep outside, seriously.

Filthy and Disgusting
By ,
We evacuated to this hotel during Hurricane Gustav and were sick by what we found. The rooms look and smell like they haven't been clearned in years. We found roaches, broken and worn out furniture coated with dust, walls that looked like someone vomited on them and our socks turned black after walking on the carpet. The bedding smelled and the mattresses were heavily stained and soiled. The staff partied with guests (which we think explains why we had to listen to these guests' loud music all night long). The smoke detectors have been removed and placed in a drawer. The filthy bathroom was not fit to bathe in. We moved across the street as soon as there were rooms available and upon checkout at University Inn, we met other guests who were doing the same thing as we were. Believe me you do not want to stay at this motel. It should be burned and rebuilt!

Worse than staying home during the hurricane
By ,
I evacuated here during a hurricane, but had I known what this place was like I would have just stayed home and taken my chances. The pics online make it look nice, but basically it is dirty and rundown. Our first night there we bought disinfectant and cleaned the bathroom ourselves. The toilet was broken (it overflowed out of the back every time you flushed it) and many of the light bulbs were burnt out. We put on the AC and left to go eat lunch and the room was still hot when we got back. When we reported it, they told us there was nothing wrong with the AC. (To which I replied "Do you want to sleep in this room??") We bought two fans so we could sleep without sweating to death. They happily supplied us with a mop to clean up the mess whenever we used the toilet. (They fixed it the next day.) The pool was a joke. I would have been scared to go in it, for fear of catching some kind of disease. And to top it all off, the room smelled horrible, so we also invested in some air freshener to help us survive our stay. Positives? We were able to keep our dogs with us ($20 refundable deposit) and the location was good.

Location the only plus...
By ,
This was probably the place to stay back in the 1950's, but it really hasn't changed much since then. I think we were the only people registered the night we stayed - at least we were the only car parked outside. Apparently the rest of the civilized world had gotten the message that this place is a dump. Even at $48 plus tax, I felt we were overcharged. There was no facility maintenance that I could see. Everything from the outside sign to the lobby seemed to be falling apart. The toilet in our room ran unless you opened the tank and physically moved the flapper. The shower drain wouldn't drain. Ever take a shower in someone else's dirty water up to your ankles? The paint was falling off the walls. The carpet (or whatever that was on the floor) was all loose and water stained from the leaky, very noisey A/C window unit. The sink faucet at one time must have been chromed, but it looked like pewter with flakes of chrome. The beds were noisey and very hard - like sleeping on a board. Zero amenities. No clock in room. Forget about an iron or ironing board or hair dryer or coffee maker or anything else we have come to expect in a modern hotel room. Oh. There was a small TV on a stand. The "Free Coffee" in the lobby was turned off. Why make coffee if there are no guests? Thankfully, there are two other hotels nearby which I will utilize from here on out. On the plus side, it's right next door to Mississippi State.

great location
By ,
Nothing fancy but hotel is very convenient. Considering the location... next door to the university and a stone-throw to many restaurants, this was a great bargain.
