Super 8 with more square footage
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/13/06
Slapping a few fleur-de-lis on the wall does not magically transform a worn out executive suite into a chic french boutique experience.
Service C - : The check in process was slow, due in part, to the fact that the one desk clerk had to manage my check in and a busy phone line while another employee stood by doing nothing at all. There was no bellcap service. The bartender was the highlight of the trip. Of course if there were only a five customers that night, it should have been easy for him to manage.
Amenities: D:The elevators were slow, stuffy, and inadequate. No jacuzzi. Limited menu in the cafe. Limited variety at the bar. No valet. No covered parking. Room Service menu in the "french boutique" hotel? Pizza.
Room Quality: C+ (for great pillows) The room decor was Underwhelming. There was one small picture on the wall of some airplanes. The rest of the room was bare. Evidently a flat screen tv and a large mirror leaning against the wall is supposed to be so impressive that one does not notice dingy wallpaper and dusty surfaces. The spindly lamps in the "living area" of the suite did not have wall switches. The bathroom was outdated, save for a recently installed black marble counter top. This was coated in a fine sheen of dust visible from the undersized bathtub. A restful night's sleep was impossible. A hotel situated near a major highway should not have single pane windows. The traffic noise was horrible. Thanks to the traffic noise and the turbine engine that ran the in-room heating unit I was awake every 30 minutes.
Value: D: I'd give it an F, but the bartender made me an excellent martini. Otherwise, this hotel is not posh, chic, or luxurious. It's a Super 8 with a little extra square footage.
Suggestions for improvement:
Update the windows in your rooms. Highway noise is not charming.
Complete the renovation. There is no reason why a guest should ever see holes in the wallpaper from the removal of old fixtures.
Install a jacuzzi, spa or steambath and provide something larger than a tea towel to dry off poolside.
Update elevators or store housekeeping carts on each floor. There is no reason why a guest should wait 3+ minutes for an elevator.
Expand the restaurant service. I expected something french, not Pizza! Breakfast should be part of the package. A little fresh fruit, a few pastires and some coffee would have gone over well.
Know your clients. If you advertise a 'french boutique" experience- provide it.
