Rather disappointing

I stayed at the Lenox during my most recent return to Boston (I'm a native) and must say the overall experience was disappointing. I was initially impressed by the grandeur of the lobby; that feeling faded as I walked toward my room. The hallways were dimly lit--perhaps for ambiance, but more likely to hide the stained and faded carpet. They also reeked of stale smoke. The non-smoking room I had requested was not ready, despite the fact that it was a few hours past regular check-in time. The only room non-smoking room available (on a weekday in mid-May) was miniscule, and had a lovely view of what appeared to be a generator and a chicken-wire cage.
Service what not what I expected, either. Room service was slow, and any special requests were greeted with an unwarranted haughtiness. Upon informing hotel staff that my tub was leaking, I was assured that it would be fixed "at their earliest convenience," which was apparently some time AFTER I left. After three days of using towels (which were only begrudgingly replaced after numerous requests) to mop up the mess, I checked out early.
