The Atlantic Ocean always provides a breath-taking display whether its a lazy summer afternoon with salty breezes and softly lapping waves or a fierce north wind blows up huge waves to crash against the rocks. Perched on the rocky coastline of Cape Ann, these are the unspoiled views from the Bass Rocks Ocean Inn. With every room facing the ocean, enjoy the panorama that stretches from Bass Rocks, to Good Harbor Beach and Salt Island, to Long Beach and the Twin Lights of Thatchers Island, and the open Atlantic Ocean. Listed in the National Registry of Historic Places, the George O. Stacy House, accented with 19th century antiques, will be a nucleus of activity for your stay. Breakfast is served on the sunporch from our bountiful complimentary, cold buffet table. During the day or evening you can relax in our living room, enjoy your favorite video, and partake of our freshly baked cookies and lemonade. Let us tempt you with our fresh, ground coffee or afternoon teas. You may try your hand at pocket billiards in our Old World game room. We also have board games, internet computer and an extensive lending library available for every member of the family. Take a refreshing swim in our outdoor pool or just lounge in the sun overlooking the ocean. We have a rooftop sun and observation deck from which you can watch Gloucester's fishing fleet go out for the days catch. Borrow one of our bikes and tour the mansions along the shores of East Gloucester. Or try your hand at a game of croquet. Explore, along the ocean, the many tidal pools. Get out your fishing rod for the Striped Bass and Blue Fish off the rocks in front of the hotel. Partake of our membership at the adjacent Bass Rocks Golf Club, an 18-hole private club overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. With beautiful white sand, this is a full service beach with lifeguards, bathhouse, and concession.

Awesome location, awesome service, and clean!
By Joshua, 06/30/09
The location of this hotel is amazing! Right across a small road from rocks with the Atlantic Ocean pounding on them! We booked a second-floor balcony room and couldn't be happier with what we got! Also, DO NOT miss out on the fresh-baked cookies (awesome!) or the muffins at breakfast-excellent!

Our favorite vacation spot
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/10/09
We are going for our 4th time in September, 2009. We try to go around the same time each visit. The staff is friendly, the view is breath taking, the breakfast is delicious. The maid, Ms. Maria, is the best person I have ever met. We enjoy seeing and talking to her every time we come here. Looking forward to the return. No dislikes from this guest.

Perfect For This Couple
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/17/09
If you have never seen the ocean, you must come here. It is blue and big and you can hear the waves crashing at night. The rooms are beautiful, recently renovated and the staff is gracious and friendly. We are glad that weddings are not allowed and are planning our vacation here this summer also.

What an awful place!!!
By Lauren, 10/25/08
The staff at this establishment are terrible. I spoke with a woman at the front desk and the words that I can use to describe her are not suitable for this website. I went to inquire about accomodations for guests after my wedding reception and she looked down her nose at me and basically said that there was no way they could accomodate meor any of my guests. I am from out of town and am just looking for a place that my wedding guests after the reception. I was inquiring for our parents, grandparents but didn't even get to explain that to this beast of a woman before she snubbed me. I would never recommend this place to anyone, not even to people that I hate. The world would be a better place if the Bass Rocks Inn fell into the ocean.

Nearly destroyed a Bride's wedding day dreams.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/08
Don't get me wrong. The Inn is gorgeous. Perfect location and beautiful scenery. A friend was getting married nearby (don't even ask to be married at the Inn or to block rooms for guests...they have no intention of being that accomodating). When the Bride arrived with her Bridesmaids to get dressed for the ceremony, one of the hotel staff blocked off the stairway REFUSING to allow the Bride and her attendants go to the room saying that the hotel was at full capacity and that no one other than the guest could enter. After much discussion, the hotel staff had nothing to offer the Bride-to-be and her friends saying that the Bride should have already known all of this. I understand that not all 8 of them could be sleeping in the same room - but getting dressed for an hour in a suite that could house a small family? C'mon. Let's get real. The lady at the front desk was on a power trip. She was beyond rude, arrogant and condescending, and had no problem belittling the Bride-to-be on her wedding day. With the amount it costs to stay here on a peak-season weekend, I would have expected nothing less than 5-star service but clearly with their noses so high in the air it must be hard to understand the joy a Bride should have on her wedding day.

Warming and Fantastic Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/08
My family and I were surprised on how well maintained the rooms and grounds were kept. Rooms appeared to have been newly refurnished. Comfortable beds, spacous room for family with two young children. Second floor had beautiful view of the ocean, while the first floor had the review and quick access to the pool. Pool was heated and clean. Families and young couples I would recommend. Beach is a little bit of a distance, but at the same time its good. Facility had bikes & movies to use. Coffee was Starbucks, no Folgers +++ in my book. I would highly recommend this hotel as well as visiting this town. The cost was a little higher than I'm use to paying, but it was peak season for this area. Hope you have an awesome time if you stay at this place.

An ocean paradise!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/06/07
Stayed here in August 2007. Would definitely come back again. The inn is on the ocean and the views are spectacular. We just saw one of the most beautiful sunrises ever. The front desk is extremely helpful and the small amenities make it special. They include a delicious continental breakfast, chocolate chip cookies and juices throughout the day, free available DVD's, bbq's, a pool and chairs on each balcony. There is free internet service as well. The inn is located in the pretty town of Gloucester Mass. on the Atlantic coast. There is a nearby beach and lots of places to walk. Restaurants are abundant. Ask for room 224 if available. It's a corner room on the second floor with windows overlooking the ocean on both sides. We would absolutely stay here again. Enjoy.

Twin Lighthouses in the distance
By Cindy P, 07/10/07
We went with friends, one of whom is a health inspector. Needless to say, our room was inspected and found in above satifactory condition. The views from the rooms are exquisite with two lighthouse twinkling in the night sky. The breakfast offered by the hotel is not only fantastic and unique (I had french toast with a fruit compote) but you get an ocean view as well. My only disappointment is that they do not serve lunch or dinner (but maybe if they did, breakfast would not be so elaborate). Never-the-less, there are plenty of great places to eat in town and Rockport too is only a skip down the road.

We'll be back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/03/07
What a nice surprise - beautiful view, bikes available, very friendly and accomodating staff, and little amenities that go a long way. Just a small jaunt on the bicycles and we were at Good Harbor Beach having a lovely stroll. Highly recommend it!
