Holiday Inn Downtown, Cumberland

I stayed at this hotel over Labor Day weekend. The front desk women was yelling at staff when we showed up to check in. When we got to our room we noticed the room had not been cleaned very well at all. There where toe nail clippings and crumbs on the floor and hair left in the bathroom tub and floor. I can imagine what was in the bed. When we called down to ask for someone to come and clean the room they said they where very busy and where rushing through the rooms - they could have at least made the quests feel comfortable that they didn't not clean on purpose. I ended up leaving a personal item in the room and they front staff was going to mail the item to me. It has been a month and I have not received the personal item or received a phone call back explaining where the item was. They are not even sure if they mailed the item but they think the must have. So I am figuring that one of the house cleaners who did a terrible job cleaning the room stole the pillow and the whole property does not even care. I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again becuase of this experience.

My check in took alot longer than I liked. The girl working was new and very very friendly. She actually was very helpful as far as suggesting local food, etc. She was new and had her hands full, considering there were 3 other guests and the phone was ringing off the hook. There was a manager there with her that kinda abondoned ship when it got hectic, however he was very nice to us as well. The hotel is a nice size. clean and spacious lobby. There are a few meeting rooms and banquet facilities. restaurant and bar on site and a nice workout facility. Our room was clean and quite comfortable. There is a very good bar/restaurant about two blocks away called the baltimore street grill. i highly recommend it. will definately stay here again. However, they do not offer the complimentary breakfast in the morning and all rooms do not have a small refrigerator and microwave. only one computer for guest use in the lobby

The front staff was very friendly even though we checked in after midnight. Didn't have anyone to bring up towels so, we had to go get them. The over all room was nice but the tub was cracked and they should tell you they are located right next to a railroad track.

For all the negative talk about the railroad, there are many of us who come to this Holiday Inn specifically because the railroad is there across the street! Among rail enthusiasts, this place is absolute heaven! I usually stay here several times every year. Staff and accommodations are excellent and train noise isn't that bad at all. Cumberland is a railroad town; enjoy it. Railfans call this place "The World's Greatest Holiday Inn."

The room itself was nice...the service was good. Especially due to the fact they had a convention going. The price though for the fact the room was supposed to be non-smoking and you could smell the smoke. The bathroom was tiny. Would stay but be prepared to pay a high price for an average room. Would advise you to look to hotels in LaVale.

The holtel is quite obviously an older hotel, but it is very, very well maintained and immaculately clean. The level of service, from the front desk to the cleaning crews is top notch! I have been in much newer, larger hotels in larger cities that could learn a lot from the folks at this hotel! My only caveat is to make sure you request a room on the 'city' side of the hotel, as a major rail line runs directly behind the hotel and is active 24 hours a day!

Half of the rooms face several railroad tracks only 150' away, which are used around the clock. Nice hotel otherwise, but beware that side of the building.
