Overrated
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/02/09
This resort is totally overrated. The accommodations are very expensive with the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in. The spa is quite average at best. I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Your experience depends on your attitude.
By Jim, 08/14/08
My wife and I have been to the Cliff House 4 times over our 17 years together. We stayed in the Ledges, Clifftop, CliffScape. We found that the older the room, the less we were impressed. We always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Probably because we were pleasant and "regular folk" to them. The food was always good but let's face it; the reason you go to this resort is for the atmosphere. Top notch all the way. And the VIEWS!! Awe inspiring. I do question the negative reviews here. I think you take away from an experience what you bring to it. In 2 days we are going back to stay for 5 days in the Spa rooms. I will write again when we return.

Terrible spa visit, even worse customer service!!!
By Ashli, 07/30/08
My friend and I visited the spa for a day away from it all. I left more stressed out than I was when I got there. My facial was terrible; I felt like I went through a carwash in a convertible! She had no real info. about my skin. All she did was a fluff and buff and a lousy one at that. If she wasnt actually going to help my skin, she could have at least made it relaxing. One would have thought that it was the first pedicure the woman had ever done. Shocking as it was, she had done it before. She was all over the place and needless to say, when she was done I still needed a pedicure. I also had requested my friend and I sit next to each other when I made the appt. We did not and when I asked the women, I was told no. There was no one else in the room, they just didnt want to move there things!!! They also dont even give you what the brochure says you'll receive! How hard is that? The icing on the cake though is how I have been treated and the way they've handled my complaints. It's nearly impossible to reach anyone and pretty much they dont care what I have to say anyways. I really dont think any one should visit The Cliff House for any reason. It has been very apparent to me that they do not care about customer satisfaction. Why spend you're money were its not appreciated!!

JUST OK
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/09/08
GREAT VIEWS (NOT FROM MY ROOM) ISOLATED FROM CENTER. NOT A PLACE FOR KIDS. EVERY MORNING WAS LOUD KIDS AND BANGING DOORS. FOOD WAS GOOD. ROOM FOR THE $$$ WAS JUST OK. OLDER COUPLE WILL NOT GO BACK.

Disappointment....
By KatherineP, 06/18/08
I was very disappointed with the Cliff House. The room was antiquated...ceiling tiles out of place, very 1980s, and there were bugs in the corner of the bathroom. I would not return the property. The Ledges are desperately need updating. No matter how spectacular the view was, the room was not worth the $215 a night price tag.

You can do a lot better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/07
The price was high, the room was average, the staff and owner were inconsiderate. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone! Don't be fooled by the high-end web site and the seaside view. This is a mediocre stay at best. What makes it a terrible hotel is the total lack of customer service. I booked a spa room for 1 night and knew from the moment I hit the check-in desk that I had wildly overpaid. The reception staff was nothing special, valet was strictly self-service, the bedspread was polyester and the room had a nice view of the parking lot below. I immediately asked for my money back and was told that I needed to e-mail the owner who would get back to me in a couple days. Of course, the reception staff would not even let me use their computer to send an e-mail. While I was waiting 45 minutes to speak with the reception manager, one of the staff bragged to me about a guest who was hospitalized mid-stay and was still forced to pay the whole bill. Nice! The staff and owner have no clue when it comes to customer service! I gave them the chance to make good (since I did not use the room.) The owner refused and said I was irrational when I said I would post my experience on Trip Advisor and other web sites. Well here it is! I feel confident that this review will cost the Cliff House more than the $350 they owe me.

Lost opportunity
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/09/07
In summary, the Cliff House "could" be one of the great New England places to stay, but the owners prefer to keep it average, at best. The view of the ocean is spectacular if you are in the right room, but a grand view does not make up for cold employees, an absolutely terrible dinner menu, lack of a real bar, and nothing-special rooms. Our room in the Cliffscape was near a big whirring fan system so as we tried to enjoy our view, instead of hearing the birds or waves, we heard exhaust fans. I was shocked to see a dinner menu that did not include one steak or high end entree and served stuff like veggie wraps for dinner! The menu looks as though the food was chosen so the cooks didn't have to cook anything; just re-heat and serve. Tastes like factory food. Front desk people were cold as ice. The rooms are nothing special and don't have refrigerators or microwaves. So, you can make the best of it, or you can stay at a place that lives up to it's fancy photos and dramatic name.

Think Twice!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/02/07
I wish the family who owns this place would sell!! I would love to be able to visit this place again but will NOT! It is atop a cliff over the ocean. The view is gorgeous!!! The dinner was fairly expensive but very bad, and the waitress was beyond inexperienced. I do not believe she has ever dined at a nice restaurant! She did not understand that a 'medium" steak referred to how well the steak was cooked. There is a dress code for the dining room which all the guests followed. The hostess (who told us she was management!) was dressed in casual clothes that did not fit her larger frame. The beds in the rooms are not comfortable and the fan is very load. All the details were missing. There were no bellman to help with suitcases. Beware.. they will not refind your deposit of one for anything!!

NOT in Ogunquit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/01/07
This place is NOT in Ogunquit-its actually several miles away. If you want to be in Ogunquit do not stay here. Its in the middle of no where in York. Can not walk anywhere!
