DO NOT STAY AT THE ANCHORAGE INN!!
By Rob C, 08/14/09
I travel for business and I have stayed in a hotel every week for the past eight years or so. I have never been treated as poorly as they treated me at the Anchorage Inn. Here is the short version: I looked at lots of hotels for a one-bedroom suite that is on the beach. When I couldn't find that, the front desk person on the phone suggested a slightly different type of room that was available. I thought about it, called back to verify the type of room, specifically asking about the wall that separates the "bed" are from the "living room" area. She even walked me through the website to show me a picture of what I would be getting. A couple days later I called again and verified the room type AGAIN. "Yes yes yes, you are all set!" I reserved that room. When I checked in, what did they tell me? "Oh no, we have you in a different type of room. We never told you what kind of room you would get." I calmly explained that they promised me that type of room three separate times on the phone, and they even walked me through the website. At that point the property manager came over and started explaining to me how my story couldn't possibly be true, and that there was nothing that they could do. After she basicly called me a liar, I wanted to tell them to go screw, but our four year old daughter was so excited to be at the beach that we decided to stay. I spoke to the manager again, and asked her very nicely to do something to compensate us for this mistake. She said that I was "just looking for money" and that they didn't make any mistake. She was the most obnoxious hotel manager I have ever spoken to, and I have spoken to a lot of them. So we give them the $450 PER NIGHT to stay in the "Luxury Ocean Suite" (the newest section of the hotel) that we didn't ask for. When I go to check out, another front desk girl asked me how my stay was. I told her what happened, and she looked me right in the eye and said, "we didn't screw up your reservation." I walked out of there and had to fight the urge to take a crap in their pool. **** IF YOU STAY AT THIS HOTEL, EXPECT AWFUL SERVICE WITH NO HOPE OF SYMPATHY WHEN THEY INEVITABLY SCREW SOMETHING UP!!!! There are plenty of better places in the area. Don't give them your business.

weekend get away
By ginny, 06/24/08
We were on the 3rd floor of the main building. Nicely decorated room but tiny bathroom and shower. Staff were helpful. No "do not disturb" signs were made available. The indoor pool near the offce was wonderful. Great place for family or romantic getwaway

Wanted to leave 10 min.after seeing room.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/17/08
We stayed here 4 nights. Our family vacation in the slums. The heat lamp in bathroom smashed on the floor and it took 2 hr. for maint.to come fix it.Our room was next to the end suite and the walls were so thin I was up half the night listening to kids screaming[Some how mine slept].Overall we contemplated leaving & paying to stay elsewhere but at $200 a nite no & refunds we had to stay.

Won't go back.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/09/08
We went for a long weekend in January. Stayed in the Atrium building which was nice, we had a nice view. Sunday everyone in the building checked out but us. We didn't have to check out until Tuesday so we had the place to ourselves for a day then another couple were checked into the room right beside us. Why, when the entire building was empty, would they put someone right beside us? They were up all night long, thin walls . . I could hear EVERYTHING they were doing. They were so loud it was horrible. Had they been put a few doors down or across the hall, it would have been fine. I wished I could have talked to the idiot who put them beside us. We were afraid to complain to the desk because we were the only other people staying in this building. So instead of extending our stay, we checked out. I used to work in the hotel business, it's part of your job to be nice to people that stay with you as they are paying your salary. Not in this place. The Front Desk people were not friendly at all.

Horrid!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/09/07
We were supposed to stay here for three nights this last summer. We ended up leaving in the middle of the second night. Customer service is terrible, the cleanliness of the hotel is beyond horrid. The place needs major renovations. We were on the second floor, and everytime someone walked by our room, the door would vibrate. The bathrooms are so teeny, it was almost impossible to give my kids a bath. The reason we left is because some partiers were letting off fireworks and the front desk would not do anything about it. Terrible hotel!!! waste of alot of money!!

Not a good place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/19/07
You shouldn't waste your money on this place! The management does not care about their guests or employees! Trust me! The beds are dirty and some are stained only to be covered by sheets so people can't see them. They will do anything, but only if it benefits them financially. The beds, furniture, and walls, in most of the rooms are falling apart, dingy, or old. There is also mold in the bathrooms. If you do stay in the atrium you are lucky, but I stayed once and there were several small red stains on my comforter along with a cigarette burn. There is often hair found in the rooms and on the sheets. Also, check under your beds for dirt and old food. If you are looking for a place to stay that is worth your money, don't go here, or you will be disappointed!

Needs major renovations
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/15/07
I take my grandchildren yearly to Maine & do stay at the Anchorage for the indoor pool in case the weather is cool such as this year. However, the room smelled so bad, had to buy air freshner, beds were hard & the room really not clean at all. I would no longer recommend anyone to stay at this hotel and this is my last year. Over $200 a night for poor cst service and a place so dirty. I should not have to clean a room when I am on vacation.

Horrified
By Erica, 07/06/07
I have never been so shocked with the terrible customer service as I was at this hotel. We traveled with our 18 month old twins for the 4th of July week. Our last night in the hotel two ceiling panels fell from the ceiling directly into our kids bag. There was a huge mess! We had to check out that morning to return to work in Boston. We called the front desk and they sent over a maintenance person and a cleaning person to take care of the room. Shortly after I went to check out and was totally shocked at how I was treated. Now, I understand accidents happen BUT from a customer service standpoint you offer SOME sort of compensation. Not at this hotel. Upon checkout, I was billed for $17.10 for the lunch I fed my twins the day before and received no apology or acknowledgement for our inconvienance. I asked about compensation and the general manager, Patti DiCesare, came over. With total disregard she responded to me, "we are not in the business of giving things away". I guess my opionion of the hotel does not matter much to them or that my twins have all of their clothes and a brand new bag ruined by ceiling panels. I mean they could have said, "don't worry we will take care of the $17.10 bill" but then again, they don't give things away!

we have been going every summer for 16 years!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/11/07
I have been bringing my niece since she was one year old. She is now 16 years old. We go every July or Aug. Her sister has joined us for the last 11 years and my 6 year old daughter. My friend and her 3 children also have joined us the last 10 years and get a room right next door. The maid service is fair.......They usually seem to be short staffed ex. cooks at the grill and bar. by the poolside. a couple of years the bar and grill were closed. We pay a lot of money to loose that conveinence. I always thought they should have a bigger bathroom downstairs for the hotel customers. Otherwise we always enjoy our stay. The children love the atrium hotel because of the pool right outside the rooms. They enjoy all of the pools and love the beach accross the street. We enjoy downtown at night.....york animal kingdom and rides. The candy store too!!

WILL NOT GO BACK
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/30/06
The rooms have NO coffee makers or irons. It's hard to find someone to help you with anything. I love Maine, but next time I go, I will stay someplace else. Also, when I pay this much I do expect a donut for breakfast.
