This Hotel Sucks

Three of us stayed in the Days Inn in Winchester, KY on April 23, 2010. We arrived around 9 p.m. and were given two rooms on the first floor at our request. When we went to the rooms, one had a broken lock. The door could be pushed open and easy access gained. The only way to lock the room was from the inside with the dead bolt. When we tried to access the other room, the key would not work. We returned to the front desk and told the clerk what had happened. She did not offer to change rooms, but gave us another key. That key did not work either. We returned again to the front desk. This time the clerk came back to the room with us with several other keys. None of those worked, but her master key did. The clerk told us that she would write a note to the manager about the two rooms. WIFI did not work either.
The next morning, before we went to breakfast, we loaded most of our luggage in our truck, but one of us had to stay in the one room so that we wouldn’t be locked out. When we went to breakfast, we got there about 15 minutes early. I met the manager, Rick Patel, and told him about what had happened the night before. He said that the clerk had written him a note as promised, and when we were done with breakfast he would let us into our room. I told him that I expected compensation for the disaster of the two rooms the night before. He just looked at me and said nothing.
Mr. Patel seemed to be the only employee on the premises at that time. Even though breakfast was supposed to begin at 6:30 there were no lights on and nothing out. Even the juice machine was locked down. While we were waiting, several people came in and saw that there was no breakfast available, so they left. Finally, about 7 a.m., Mr. Patel got things going.
After breakfast, Mr. Patel gave us yet another key to get into the room, and the key would not work. We returned to the front desk and Mr. Patel returned with us, and tried several newly made keys, which also did not work. This time, even his master key did not work. He told us that he would reprogram the lock and be back in 10 minutes. Finally, Mr. Patel returned and was able to get us back into our room.
In the meantime, we loaded our luggage into our truck. Then after using the toilet in the room with the broken lock, the toilet stopped up. Since we were at the furthest end of the hall, it was easier to drive around to the front of the hotel to check out. When we arrived at the front of the hotel, Mr. Patel saw our truck pull up, saw me get out of the truck, and left the front desk before I could get inside.
By this time, there was another clerk on duty, who asked if I wanted a copy of my bill. I asked her when Mr. Patel would be coming back, and she said she didn’t know. I waited approximately five minutes, but I knew he wasn’t coming back as long as I was there, because I knew he did not want to hear my complaints again and he did not want to give me any compensation. The clerk said that since I already had the lowest rate the hotel charged, I could not receive any other. She also added that she did not have the authority to give me compensation, that only Mr. Patel could do this. I went down the hall looking for Mr. Patel, but he was nowhere to be found.
I was extremely angry. I told the clerk that I knew what Mr. Patel’s game was, and this wasn’t the last of it, that I would contact corporate HQ. I also told her to be sure she told Mr. Patel this. Unfortunately, when I contacted Days Inn corporate HQ, I was informed that this was an independent Days Inn and they could do nothing. So beware, especially if you are in Winchester, KY. I'd sleep in the car first.
