Nice location
By ,
Beautiful hotel with great history. Room was small and had a poor view. Feather pillows, yuck! It was very clean and was in walking distance to many Chicago attractions.

I thought this was a very beautiful hotel, we were here for a infant/toddler conference. The staff was very polite and very helpful, I recommend this to anyone.

Great location and Wonderful staff
By ,
I enjoyed my stay at the Palmer house. It is right next to the art institute and close to the theater district. I was in Chicago on business but was able to enjoy some of the city from this hotel. There was some construction going on for the remodel that is projected to last until late 2007, but aside from some noise during the day it is hard to tell. The rooms were very comfortable and the lobby bar is the jewel of the place. I was attending a conference and the exhibit halls were nice as well. All the staff were helpful, from the check-in to the staff at the business center. It was a wonderful experiance and I would stay there again.

I have stayed in the Palmer house over 100 days in the last year.
By ,
I guess you can say I have stayed in about every room type they offer and there is a big difference between them. Some rooms are so small you can barely get out of bed and others have a full kitchen, multiple bath rooms, Multiple rooms (bed, living, etc). All things considered it is a good hotel. The rates are not rock bottom but are reasonable $154. The location is in the theater district so there is quite a bit in close proximity. Things I like best 1. Location 2. Hilton Honors Conceriege Lounge 3. Willingness to accomidate Things I dislike the most 1. The wait on the Elevators to the upper floors sometimes takes up to 15 min during the morning rush. 2. Room Service doesn't have a very good selection and is WAY over priced. An example of this is ordering breakfast (2 eggs, hash browns, toast, juice) will cost you around $40.

If you want a good downtown hotel in a great location this is the place. Went in for Easter weekend and it was definitely the time to go as the hotel was not crowded at all. We never had to wait for an elevator and it was very quiet. Our room was clean and spacious. The price was right at $98 a night and the check-in took only minutes. We would definitely go back as it was so centrally located for loop shopping and museums.

Don't let the rates fool you.
By ,
Wonder why the room rates are lower than other downtown hotels? That's because they make up for it in other ways. Even the cheap no-tell motels offer free internet access from their lobby computer. Here it's $4.95 for the first 15 minutes. $1.50 for a local phone call. Forget the restaurant. $4.95 for toast. $5.00 for a glass of OJ and that's not room service! Do yourself a favor and eat around the corner. The business center is run by UPS and they charge for everything. $2.14 to receive a one page fax. You learn quickly that everything is an added charge. No one offered to help with our bags although all the hops were standing around BS'ing with one another. Try and get your bags through the revolving door. They didn't even offer to open the door for us.

We had a perfect stay!
By ,
Likes: Everyone was so very helpful. Definitely take advantage of the concierge service. The hotel is very close to bus stops and tons of other stuff...great location. The lobby and bar areas are beautiful...we took tons of pictures of these areas they were so nice. The pillows and bed was amazing - better than ours at home, even. The room was cleaned great each day we were there. Lots of pillows and towels. Dislikes: Room service prices are pretty expensive. This is really the only dislike I can even think of.

Concierge needs more training
By ,
First, the concierge gave us bad directions to the bus terminals which put us at the end of the line instead of the beginning and made us late for our convention. On the second occasion, we needed to get to a restaurant in Greektown and they noted a bus route that only exists during special events (Route 19). Thirdly, the concierge noted that we could get discounted parking for the lot we were in but we found out we couldn't. Three strikes and the concierge service is OUT! Never ask for travel advice from these people, they must not know Chicago very well. Otherwise, our experience in the rooms was wonderful, the maid staff is very friendly and willing to give you extra supplies with promptness and a friendly smile. The Bell Boys were very helpful with departing and didn't push for a tip but one was still given.
