splendid and historical place to be
By ,
Personally , I like the lobby very nicely decorated and the restaurants offer good food and service and last but not least the Palmer House has been my first choice when I visited Chicago in 1978 for the first time

DON'T bother Tipping at The Palmer House!
By ,
Celebrating our 30th anniversary at the Palmer House Hilton. I checked in and gave James W., who worked at the front desk a $20.00 tipp and explained it was our 30th anniversary. He took the money and said to me, I will do something special for you. When you get to your room you will be surprised! YEA I WAS! NOTHING. I called the front desk and asked JAMES W. if I was missing something. He said he was sorry and he would have it sent right up! Never did. Tipping at the front desk when checking in at the PALMER HOUSE HILTON, D O N' T. This really kills it for tipping industry! The hotel was nice. Rooms very small especially the bathroom. Good location. PARKING, I was charged $90. for three nights. The Palmer House automaticlly charged my credit card and put the receipt under my door. When I left the parking structure I had to insert my parking ticket to exit and the meter said $61.00?? Don't have The Palmer House Validate your parking ticket It will cost you more! If any one from The Palmer House wants to verify this or contact me. My stay was Sept. 9/27 thru 9/30 Room 20-131.

Worst Hotel Service Ever
By ,
Ok, so having worked for the Four Seasons when I was in grad school may have raised my expectations a bit - but still - shouldn't the staff and management be somewhat approachable? The only person on staff who was kind was the bell boy. There were problems with my reservations that the manager refused to help me with and instead referred me to a neighborhing hotel. She bold face lied to me that they were out of rooms but alas, one popped open when our conference organizer was called in to help. (Even then, the room was dingy, depressing and small.) There was construction going on the entire time we were there and you could hear the jack hammers during our conference sessions. I can't say enough bad things about the management. They have no idea what the word hospitality means. The rooms are expensive and they nickle and dime you for everything else: Internet hook up in room: $12.95 a day. Wifi: $6.95 for 30 minutes. There was even a charge for use of the fitness room! This was the most unaccomodating staff and our organization was spending a lot of money at the hotel for a conference. I would recommend conference planners look elsewhere. Heed our lessons. There are plenty of worthy alternatives.

They treat customers like crap
By ,
The Palmer Hilton is a really pretty hotel. However, if you book through a discount website, they will stick you in a small room with one bed and try to screw you over for trying to save $. This is despite their promise to me that they would provide me with 2 double beds per room. They then tried to charge me for a roll away even though they promised to give me two beds in the first place. The room was so small, that they had to completely rearrange the furniture to fit it in. After I spoke to their front desk about not having to pay for the roll away after they inconvenienced me, they agreed to drop the charge. They then billed me for the roll away anyway and gave me an extremely difficult time and only would split the cost of the rollaway. Also, no free internet like the good 2 and 3 star hotels offer. They pretty much try to charge you for everything. I am surprised the TV didn't require me to swipe my credit card to watch ESPN.

Won't ever go back!
By ,
We were very disappointed in out stay at the Palmer House Hilton. At $350 a night, we felt the room was way overpriced. The hallway was dim and dingy, the bathroom needed a complete upgrade, and we were surprised to see that a microwave and mini-fridge were not provided. We couldn't believe that the ammenity in the room was two warm bottles of water that cost $3.50 each, and that you had to pay for the internet service. Even the less expensive motels provide free internet services. We won't ever stay at the Palmer House Hilton again.

talk about frustrating.......
By ,
I found the staff to be very disorganized and unhelpful....I had read poor reviews online before my stay and know after my stay - I believe them all. First it took us 45 minutes to check in, even though there was 4 staff there to check in and we were 2nd in line.....We waited in line about 25 minutes and then when it was our turn to check in, the gentleman looked at his computer screen for about 10 minutes and then disappeared in the back room for another 15 minutes....when he came back we asked what the problem was and his response was "we're looking for a room for you".....he then told us we were getting a room with 2 beds, like we requested....when we got upstairs, the room was TINY and there was one small bed. At that point we were told because the room was booked through Priceline, they couldn't guarantee us anything. However, the bed was so small that even if me and my colleague WANTED to share the bed, there's no way we could have (and neither of us are overweight)....When I went downstairs to order a rollaway bed - there were 3 people there for business purposes trying to check in and the hotel didn't have the rooms for each of them that were reserved, so the 2 ladies had to share a room...........this hotel was completely disorganized and while the staff wasn't mean or rude, they certainly appeared as if they had no clue what was going on........

Looking forward to returning
By ,
This Hotel was AWESOME i had previously checked into a LaQuinta Inn & Suites and needless to say I stayed one night and left. I was Blessed enough to get a room at the Palmer Hilton and I was able to enjoy the rest of my trip in Chicago. The location was perfect, the food was great and the staff was second to none. The room was Beautifully decorated and the beds felt like laying on clouds, I actually looked forward to going back to my room. On a scale of 1 - 10 I'd give it a 12. Thank You Palmer House Hilton for being there. Sincerely Wanda Knight Knight's Sparkle Service

A must-stay
I would recommend this for anyone interested in staying in downtown Chicago. A luxurious hotel we booked for a steal on Priceline. Parking can be expensive and access to the pool and weight room limited, but with Hilton Honors comes access to the top floor lounge. A great stay overall.

Nice...but lacking a lot
By ,
The Hotel itself is very elegant however, the rooms werent much to look at. I expected a lot more. The rooms were more like a days inn room. Very Small bathrooms, decor was lacking a lot, and the walls were very thin. You could hear all the talking in the next room. Now the good:Hotel employees were very nice and the hotel is in a great location. The beds were the most comfortable beds I have ever had in a hotel.
