get ready for the worsy hotel experience
By ,
My husband and I stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago on our first trip to Hawaii together for my birthday...and it was by far the WORST hotel experience we've ever had. EVER. There were some major issues including: -No water for 15 hours, when the hotel said it would be around 3 or 4. -BUGS (gigantic ones!) everywhere in the room. Alive and crawling. -They moved us to a room that had no bed. Overall, the decor looks nothing like the pictures online. It is about as disappointing as you can expect--very dirty, old furnishings and tiles, no bathtub, limited amount of pillows and towels, cranky loud elevator. Everything looks like it came from the 60s--old and needs lots of updating. The free "continental breakfast" was a complete joke--slices of bread, one type of fruit, and small amounts of juice and coffee is NOT appropriate and certainly nothing to promote. They don’t even have basic amenities like a hair dryer & shampoo and their tiny 2 ounce bar of soap had holes in the wrapper. I can only imagine how old that soap was! Seems like the housekeeping and maintenance departments don't speak very good English either. We had an issue with our shower stall (this was after they got the water back on after 15 hours), where the water didn't turn on and the hot and cold knobs didn't work properly, and we called somebody up to work on it. The guy spent almost 2 hours trying to fix it and finally said that he'd have to come back the next day because he couldn't fix it right then. Hence, our plans for the evening changed because we weren't able to take a shower for 2 days. My husband went down to the front desk many, many times to inquire about the water situation and the staff was not very responsive. It seems like communication wasn't a big importance at this place. We were so angry about the whole situation that we called Priceline, the company that we booked the package through and spoke with a rep and demanded a refund, and he informed us that he'd have to contact the hotel first to see what they can do. After awhile, they said the hotel was only able to refund back one night....which was certainly not enough for the horrible experience!!! Disgusting. Atrocious. That's how I'd describe this hotel. PLEASE save your money and go somewhere else...anywhere else is better than this one. The only good thing I can say about this place was the close proximity to Waikiki and the beach. But then again, there are many MANY other hotels close to the beach that are much better than this one. Please do not stay here

One of our best memories from Hawaii
By ,
The Equus, particularly the people working there including Rene and Puka, provided the perfect welcome for our Hawaii vacation. They provided excellent tourism information, exuded the aloha spirit, and even offered help in procuring a place to stay in another part of Oahu (we wisely decided to remain at the Equus for one more night). Our rooms were spotless, and the breakfast was a welcome bonus. We have recommended this hotel to friends who are planning to visit Honolulu.

Great customer service
By ,
My husband and I stayed in the Marina Tower for 3 nights. Although there were a couple issues that occurred, the staff was very efficient in accommodating our needs. They called us taxis, gave us directions, and generally helped us have a wonderful vacation. Ahchew even sent me my Diamond Head shirt, I forgot to pick up. The view from our room was breathtaking. The vacation wouldn't have been the same at a different place.

Will definitely return!
By ,
Frankly, how ANYONE can get out of the beds at this hotel in the morning is beyond me! They are the absolute most comfortable beds I have ever slept on. The room looked newly renovated! Service was friendly, hotel is clean, and parking was a bit of a challenge. My fiancè & I will definitely stay with them again!

Update on Bait
By ,
Just to be fair, the Customer Relations Manager when I called from Korea about the conditions my daughers were living in took quick and effective action. It seems her staff had not been passing on the info and the girls were moved to another room in the Tower. Although it was a little late in coming it was very professional of the manager and her promise to comp 4 days for their trouble is a very good reflection on her placing value on the customer and repeat business. I hope her staff learned to be more like her.

Bait and Switch
By ,
My daughters are there now. They arrived on the 14th. Called me and asked to be moved. They did not like the fact it looks nothing like their web page, has a roach problem, the room would make a nice closet, and the staff gave attitude when asked for an extra pillow. I sent an e-mail to inquire from the hotel about the conditions and 6 days later still no reply. I would suggest they change their name since there is no Marina near them and lack the quality of a flop house. My daughters deserved a better vacation. I trusted the reviews which I now must suspect. Who wrote them?

Horrid!
By ,
First trip to Hawaii. Got to the hotel, no elevator to the lobby. No one to help shlep my suitcase up the stairs. I was then informed that they did not have the room I had booked ( double beds) and that I can take a room with a king. With no where to go and no where where to put my stuff I accpeted the room they offered. The room was filthy, bugs, AC did not work, TV didnt work. Complained to the front desk, they totally blew me off. After debating about what to do for half the night I called expedia. The next morning after being on the phone for an hour the hotel agreed to refund me for the remaining nights. There was no way I was sleeping in a filthy bug infested room, with no ac, non working tv for eight nights. I dont need a ritzy expensive hotel, but i do expect a clean hotel with a working tv and AC. I ended up moving to the Ramada Wakiki, a fantastic, inexpensive hotel. I dont usually write reviews, however the Equus hotel is so horrible I just need to! Their photos on their website are VERY misleading.

comfortabel, convenient and stylish
By ,
Location is great: beach park across the street, shopping center a 5 minute walk...central Waikiki 15 minute walk in the other direction. Less hustle and bustle and easy to get out to the rest of Oahu. So great for side trips to the North Shore, Chinatown and all points east.Super comfortable beds and pleasant staff. Small hotel, so personable. Price is awesome for all you get( free breakfast, paper and internet)!
