Pono Kai, It was ok V.I. be aware
By Benjamin A, 08/24/09
The rooms were spacious!! The kitchen was well stocked. If you are trading with Diamond Resorts, or Vacation International or any other time share trading system be aware!!! Every problem we had they told us we had to call VI. We got everything worked out but then our A/C went out. It took them a couple of hours to find us another VI room w/ an A/C. The second room was better then the first so that was nice, but it was a pain.

Our home on Kauai two weeks every year
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/08
Pono Kai is a wonderful resort we own at Pono Kai the units are fine, but I would say the beds are difficult because they are so hard. Then again we are in Hawaii on the garden Isle, what's to complain about. The beach is not the best on Kauai but it is fine and its not crowded. Being so close to downtown Kapaa, making walking to breakfast, lunch or dinner plausible. Kapaa is centrally located between Princeville and Poipu another plus. Traffic in Kapaa is unreal at certain times of the day is a negative, but then you are on vacation in Kauai what's to complain about.

Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/08
Our room was by the ocean, and was truly all that you needed, but we were on the ground floor which was quite noisy. The condo itself was quite shabby, the furniture on the lanai was old and rusty, so we didn't really want to spend much time there. In addition, two days in a row we came home, hoping to take a nap, but they were doing construction on our lanai. No one told us this was going to be done and when we asked at the front desk, they claimed they didn't know about it and really did nothing to help the situation. It wasn't until the following day when we had to go to the front desk and ask, that they told us they would wait to finish the construction when we were gone.

Little Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/23/08
+Our room was on the ocean, but the ocean walls are falling in so they had it taped off and you could not get on the beach or in the water because of sink holes. The bathroom was dated and the living area had a sofa so worn that they had patched some material over some torn places on the back and had holes in the bottom cushions. Pono Kai is in a very good location, close to all stores and places to eat. Every morning we were awakened to the people above us walking on the floors, opening closet doors and then showering. I have heard of thin wall, but never thin floors.

Fabulous ocean views
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/16/07
We stayed in a newly remodeled unit. The kitchen and bathroom had new custom-made cherry cabinets with granite countertops. All the appliances were new including a 2 drawer dishwasher. There was a large walk-in shower/no bathtub. This condo was very tastefully decorated with some great art work and accessories. Even though the condo had no air conditioning, the ceiling fans kept the temperature very comfortable. We were about 75 yards from the ocean and the views were fantastic and the sound of the ocean very relaxing. The resort is centerally located on the east shore which is approx. 35 minutes to the south and north shores.

Wish I Lived There!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/06
Small and intimate. Loved it so much, I bought there in 1985! You won't get lost in the resort like the big resorts! Quiet and beautiful!

We return every year
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/08/06
Pono Kai is our "Home away from home." We come back PK and Kauai every year for peace and relaxation. The PK is close to many stores and restaurants. The grounds are kept up nicely and the staff is friendly and helpful. We don't really use the pool because we have one at home. Try to get an upstairs unit because you can hear people above you.

booked for 2007
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/17/06
I am a former travel agent. We love Hawaii and Kauai for its beauty and the spirit of Aloha. We stayed at The Pono Kauai in 1999,again in 2001.We sent our niece there for her honeymoon in 2005.We had to cancel our 40th anniversary trip this year but have planned a trip for 2007.We have RCI points but I always ask if the Pono Kai is open.

Can't wait to go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/07/06
I had looked at a map wrong which, in turn, was going to make my husband & I late to our scuba diving. The front desk clerk said, "No worries" & gave me a map, highlighted the route we needed to take to get there. We made it on time without worries thanks to their help! It definitely isn't the Princeville but, for the price, you definitely get your money's worth. From the huge koi pond you can relax by to the herb garden that you can show your children. It is perfect for a relaxing walk on the beach since it is right on the ocean. We awoke to wonderful views of the sunrise every morning. This was by far the hardest place to leave!!
