Loved my Kaha Lani stay.

I am looking forward to returning to Kauai and Kaha Lani this November (2005). It is our special paradise. The Aloha spirit among the office staff and housekeepers puts you at ease right away.
PRO: The entire building, gardens and view are wonderful. I do not think we could have picked a prettier or more convenient location. For us, value is so important to our overall vacation budget that we take a 1 bdrm oceanview. As with everything else rates have risen since last year's visit, but we cut corners in other ways to make sure we could get back to this paradise again.
The oceanview condo we rented might as well have been an oceanfront as we could settle down in the living room, dining room or lanai to see the sunrise on the ocean, the sandy beach, whales jumping and fishermen casting lines from the beach. The unit we rented gave us a feeling of being in Hawaii and not in just any routine mainland condo. It was decorated in the Aloha style, i.e., furniture and furnishings. The condo had cable TV, CD and DVD players, msg. phone, clock radio, etc. The kitchen was fully equipped. I was happy to find some of the small gadgetry I have at home, from tea strainer to corkscrew. The housekeeping staff kept that unit impeccably clean, windows sparkled and, as well, everything worked. The carpets, towels, sheets, blankets, bedspreads and towels were immaculate and we felt safe using them. Mattresses in the bedroom and even the sofabed in the living room were very comfortable.
Kaha Lani feels secluded and yet is convenient to the airport by less than 10
miunutes (with no plane noise), close to markets, restaurants and shopping centers, and north and south sides of the island by about 45 minutes each way. What is especially nice is its location right next to Lydgate Park (protected swimming in rock bound natural pools, the long flat walking trail from Wailua River outlet to the ocean all the way to the new Kamalani playground and bridge. It is right next door to the Wailua Municipal Golf Course (great rate).
CON:
1. You have to plan for increased traffic on the main road at commute times generally and, especially, you have to plan time to fill the gas tank and get to the airport on time when you are leaving the island.
2. Crowing roosters bother some folks, although I have come to enjoy them as a part of being there. They are all over the island, so it is just not something peculiar to Kaha Lani.
3. They have not gotten air conditioning yet, although there is almost a constant breeze off the ocean through the condos. We really depended on the ceiling fans when it got up near "real feel" 90's.
4. Seems like Friday nights, sometimes kids like to squeal their tires on Leho Rd. until late, like midnight. That can be quite annoying in paradise. We called the manager, who in turn called the local P.D. It stopped that night, but we heard it again on Sat. night. Maybe the problem is solved now; someone discussed putting those bumps in.
In any case, the trade-off is worth it in our estimation. I have traveled the world a great deal, but this where I will always come for a vacation. What a treasure find!
