This place sucks. It has really gone down hill since we were here in 07. The first room we had, the drapes could not be opened. We were moved to a new room only to find it had not been cleaned and the linen not changed. We found that most of the staff were rude. We were suprised to find that the lounge in the main reception area is no longer open. Same as the Lanai resturant is not open for lunch any more. There high end resturant above the Lanai is closed as well. They now charge for everything, $16.00 a day for the internet, $3.50 a day for the safe. We will never go there again

The BEST Vacation EVER!!!!!!
What a beautiful place. We were in three towers Kalia, Lagoon and the Waikikian...all just wonderful. The Rooms were spacious and views were breathtaking. Save soooo much money cooking breakfast and light lunches and eating on the balcony's...nothing like it. Could have stayed out there all day and night. Lagoon balcony faced the LUAU gardens and Friday night fireworks. Weather was cooperative. Family enjoyed the new water slides and the lagoon beach area. All Staff very courteous and helpful. Rooms were not cool enough but they adjusted the temperature and all was good. Plan another trip this December ....cant wait...

Amazing!
By ,
What can I say I loved almost everything about this hotel we got excellent service in all areas and the actual layout of the hotel is amazing. The gardens were fantastic, the access to the beach was easy and the whole ambience was completety what you expect of an Hawaiian dream holiday. The bedroom was enormous and the facilities great including a fridge and kitchenette area. The partial sea view was good and the view from the side window of the beautiful sunrise was out of this world (different every morning). The shopping complex was fantastic and we espcially liked the Hawaiin gift shop and the German lady who served us in there was really helpful and friendly and gave us lots of tips of where to eat. The only down side was the cost of two sunbeds and umbrella on the beach $60 but after day one we avoided this and sat around the pool areas instead of the beach. The pool areas are really good as the vegetation provides shelter from the sun. What a great hotel, hope I get chance to return in the future.

Not what it used to be
By ,
As a previous reviewer mentioned, this used to be a much nicer hotel, in terms of service and cleanliness. Most of the staff were lacking any 'Aloha spirit', if not downright miserable, and getting any sort of decent 'perks' from our Diamond Hilton Honors membership was not possible (OK, boiled eggs and fruit for breakfast, wow). Although the carpet seemed new, our room in the Ali'i tower had dirty walls/doors, along with mold and rust on the shower ceiling. What really bugged me is that they charge $3.95 / day for the use of the room safe! (to encourage theft perhaps -- we didn't use it). On the good side, the grounds are still beautiful and the location is good, if you must stay in Waikiki (Maui no ka oi!).

Big changes in service in 2009!!!
By ,
Our family stayed at this hotel in October 2007 and had a great experience. This experience influenced our choice of hotels for our July 2009 Hawaii trip. Big disappointment on this trip. Staff informed us that Hilton no longer owns this hotel and it was sold to the Blackwell (?) group. Of course none of the changes are apparent on their web page. Policy has changed on room upgrades. As a Hilton Honors Gold VIP, we received a nice upgrade on our last stay. Mediocre upgrade on this stay in the Ali'i Tower. The really nice breakfast buffet this hotel had back in 2007 changed in April 2009. Now Gold VIPs only receive a complimentary continental breakfast (cheap pastries, juice and small choice of fruit). Cartoon network channel was black and white during our whole stay and never was fixed. Ice machines stopped working for a two day stretch and had to trek to another tower for ice. No late check out even though that is suppose to be a benefit for a Gold VIP member. $24 a day parking fee and no free Internet access in your room. Any one who stayed here before April 2009, should think twice about returning. No effort from staff or management to make up for the policy changes. Feeling is staff are overworked/understaffed and just don't care. Total different lodging experience due to new owners "business decisions".

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY
By ,
As Parker stated before me, this place is WAY over rated. The rooms are lazily cleaned and run down. The restaurants are nothing better than what you can get from IHOP right across the street. And the employees dont really give a rats a** if youre there or not. Very few employees use the word thank you, or "how can I help you?" or rarely seem happy to have you as a guest. We asked several different employees different questions about what to do on Oahu, good local restaurants to try, best touristy things to do, 99% of them answered a simple "I dont know." They dont want you to leave the property, so all they know is the shops there on the grounds, which are extremely over priced. I think the nicest person we met there was Andrew who works at the pearl shop. We chose several pearls and he helped us and was very kind. He was not, however, an employee of the Hilton. I dont remember the name of the shop he works at. But at all the other shops we visited, once the employees realized that you were just looking, or didnt intend to spend any money, they were all very rude. The "lagoon" has fake sand that feels like some kind of construction material. Huge disappointment. The beaches were too rocky to really enjoy. My niece fell and cut her knees on the rocks because you just cant take a step without stepping on one. The overall city itself looks run down. They need to raise their city and state taxes there and spend it on renovating the city. I couldnt give any less than one star, but if I could, I would give it NO stars.

Disgrace to the Hilton Family of Hotels
By ,
Over-rated, extremely over-priced, noisy, over-crowded, tourst trap of the worst proportions! The restaurants are third rate, and shamelessly overpriced. Three days here, and we only want to leave. The food is not just over-priced totally out of reason, it is slop. The "sushi" restaurant here, served us pork belly, which was nothing but a greasy piece of fat only, a small plate of mangy sushi, and two "crab cakes," which can out of a can, for $90. What was supposed to be $40 room service, became almost $90 with all HHV's add ons.To sit on the beach, you must rent a lounge chair for $15 a chair. HHV touts itself as a family resort, however it is nothing more than a shameless soaking of unwary tourists by the Hilton chain. Avoid at all costs!

Family Oriented and Best Beach
By ,
As a previous visitor of Oahu, I have to say HHV has the best beach out of all the hotels on "beach row". It has the most beach space and softer sand. A bit rocky but not as rocky as the rest of the beach going towards Diamondhead. The hotel is very family oriented with quaint little shops between all the seven towers, plenty of good eats; most of it was international cuisine, but yummy. Just a bit of a walk down to Denny's and Ihop if you need "the typical" stuff. The hotel was great, the rooms were large enough and very clean. Oceanview room was pure heaven. The weather couldn't have been better- a couple of overcast days but the rest sunny and beach playing days. The only stint I had was at check in, it was chaotic if you go to the main lobby, however, you can also check in at the Kalia Tower for any of their village towers! It's always empty! (Kahlia Tower is the building next to Benihana Restaurant) Overall, we had a great time. The hotel had all the amenitities and necessities you need for beach bumming; and all the tours and buses pick up and drop off at this hotel so you don't have to walk far at all like other places.

Absolutely Perfect!
By ,
My husband and I took the first vacation of our married life and spent a week on Oahu. We had a wonderful stay at the HHV. Our room was large and comfortable, the grounds were beautiful, and the staff was helpful. Almost anything you need, you can get there on the property. ( Including car rental, which we took advantage of when we drove to the North Shore for a shark dive one day - highly recommend as well! ) The restaurants are good, the prices are comparable to that which you find elsewhere on the island. It's location is top notch, and it has quite possibly the BEST stretch of beach on Waikiki. When we checked in, our oceanfront room had been reserved, but they had us in a two double bed room rather than a single King. We asked to change, and they upgraded us free of charge. The view we ended up with was breathtaking. The whole experience from beginning to end was wonderful. We can't wait to go back!
