This is not a hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/30/10
Understand that this is NOT a Hotel. This is a residence where owners sublet their rooms. YOU WILL BE REMOVED from your room if the owner decides to return. My belongings were rifled through and thrown into another room before they even consulted me. I went into my room to find a family unpacking and my luggage and computer gone. This happened to me and two other colleagues. We had booked the rooms months in advance and were all shuffled around because "Man Versus Food" Decided to do a taping there and the super bowl was coming into town the following week. As for the rooms: The carpets are old, often stained. Tile floors dirty (mops used to smear the dirt into corners). Rooms are in general disrepair. The Room owners have many amenities locked up so that you cannot use them. The overall worst thing is the smell. There is a smell that comes up through the elevator shafts that is nauseating. A mix of; dumpster, kitchen grease and bleach. The rooms smell like mildew (and bleach) Best described as “old person smell”. I can sum up the staff simply as clueless and quick to blame everyone but themselves. Regarding our business arrangements; we booked the ballroom for a workshop and had the banquets manager interrupt it with a tour for other potential customers. Very unprofessional! Bottom line this place is there to take your money and could care less if you ever return.

DONT BE FOOLED !
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/15/09
we stayed at the Alexander hotel a week ago. The suite we had looked nothing like the one on the web page. The rooms looked downright 'dumpy'. The bathrooms were dirty, the last guests apparently had left the toilets unflushed ,and had sprinled the seat with urine. The showers were dirty too ,and one had left over band-aid paper on the floor.. The shower stalls had dirty doors and needed a good scrubbing. The soap scum and dirt from years of use by previous guests had heavily coated the glass sliding doors. The kitchen had a rusty refridgerator that looked really nasty.the television remotes did not work and we had to call twice to have the matter addressed, the came changed the batteries ,but the crap still did not work right. The floors apparently had not been mopped in God knows how long and the decor was lacking any taste. The steakhouse is very expensive and the serving quite small.DONT EAT THERE! the amenities are fairly decent,if not on the cheap and tacky looking side. I would never stay here again !

Think Twice Before Staying Here!
By Rose, 05/20/09
The ads you see on line for this hotel are misleading. We booked through Expedia another no no, and requested an ocean view but didn't get it. The front desk at the hotel said that they can't do any thing about it because we booked through Expedia. We got into our room and our view was, facing the adjacent hotel, and looking down on the hotel roof. Walking into the hotel main entrance you would think that you were in a 5 star hotel but once we got into our hotel room, the carpet looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years, the windows were very dirty and disgusting, and the floor wasn't cleaned. It was more like a two star hotel. We had to get hotel assistance with opening the bedroom door because we couldn't open it. Then we needed assistance with the television because IT wasn't working. The towels were gross, they looked worn out, gray looking and were rough on my skin. This also includes the beach towels. (if you go bring your own lawn chairs for the beach, there is a charge of $6 US a day until 5 pm for the chairs. You have to give the chairs back at 5 PM). The fridge door was broken and dirty. The drain in the tub was back logged and debris would travel up and in to the tub. At this point we requested a second room, which was no better. The hotel has a major problem with cockroaches which I can understand as being a part of a populated and hot city as Miami. BUT it doesn't HELP to leave food on the floor, and to leave open plates of food in the service galley. I was shocked to see the trays of food from their room service delivery on the shelf in the service galley. A buffet for the cockroaches!!! We had problems with our keyless card and had to see the front desk several times for new keys. Other guests at the hotel had the same problem, and they had to use our phone to call down at the front desk to get help to let them in their room. The safe was a problem, we had to get assistance with it as well, as it wouldn't lock and unlock. This was a monumental waste of time! Don't even bother to ask for recommendations or ideas about what to do in Miami. You are sent to the concierge who talks your ear off, and has very limited knowledge of the events going on. We got the sense that they get paid off to recommend certain restaurants etc. We did our best to avoid speaking to them due their verbose manner and lack of knowledge. This was very annoying. We were NOT interested in seeing the Everglades which were pushed on us to visit. The cost for room service is exorbitant, don't bother ordering coffee. I asked for ice at the pool bar and was refused by the rude bartender, saying to me that they don't give out ice. I needed the ice because I hurt my knee in their poor excuse for a gym. Don't believe what you see in their ads. The gym is dirty, the equipment must have been purchased from a junk yard garage, it smells, moldy. This hotel has some good points but the staff needs better training, the rooms need to be cleaned and fixed up. If you go be prepared for getting to know their maintenance man who is very nice btw. Think twice about booking in this hotel.

Great Place, great price
By Michael, 02/02/09
Always a great deal when the whole family can stay in a beautiful two bedroom apartment and have two great pools on the beach for much less than a cramped hotel room would cost.

Best Hotel Ever
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/20/08
the alexander hotel is gorgeous. The lobby is dimly lit with plush couches. On the way to the pool the sunlight pores into the building with plants on all sides. The pools are amazing- One heated one and one colder one with a waterfall. The location is great- it's near the beach and boardwalk and there's alot of great stores in the erea. I'm going again with my family in a few days. you just can't find a nicer hotel.

NOT A 4 Star Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/07
If you been to a 5 star Hotel before don't come to the Alexander Hotel. The Staff does not know what they are doing. All the rooms are different because they have different owners. We stayed at room 908 and apparently the owner of that room loves the 70's. I had in my room a Magnavox TV from 1974. The carpet was old and the appliances had rust. If you come with a lot of people is not a bad hotel because the rooms are huge. But if you are going with a small family go somewhere else. The beach had these huge rocks and the pool was usually empty. There was no feeling of a Tropical Paradise instead that they were just surviving.

great place at a great price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/03/07
I liked the location, the roomy and well furnished suites, the extremely helpful service. The fact that you have Shulas Steak right in the building is outstanding, what more can be asked, than a Shula catered meal in your own room.

Needs a thorough cleaning!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/07/07
My husband and I have stayed at this hotel now for the fourth year in a row while attending an annual business function in Miami and have loved this hotel in the past. This year we brought friends with us. Imagine our dissapointment when we walked on the floor of our room without shoes...it was absolutely black with dirt! The toilets smelled so badly, we hated to use them. Crumbs from previous guests were never wiped off the dining room table the entire three days we were there (despite my complaints!). The bathtubs were always left with dirty water spots after the staff cleaned. The parking attendant ran our rental car into a pole and wasn't going to confess...till we saw it and forced them to file an accident report with the rental agency. All this and they (so far) have still tried to charge us the full price for the stay. Managers were "unavailable" even though I tried to reach them 4 to 5 times each day we were there. We are home now and I'm still trying to reach someone to get some sort of satisfaction. I'm very sad that this once beautiful hotel has deteriorated so much and the staff seems to expect us just to "live" with it! Shame!!!

Favorite weekend getaway spot
By Amanda, 02/26/07
This hotel is pretty pissa. The food is wicked good, the pools are sharp lookin, and the staff members are a delight. A great game to play in the hot tubs is, Whose foot is this? That game is always good for a few laughs. Also, don't forget to get some frozen drinks in a silly cup at the Top of the Falls. Love this place!
