VERY UNHAPPY
By stevens, 3/4/12
we rented a room at 1130 pm just suppose to be a romantic nt for me and hubby. didnt go to the room. we walked the beach after getting something to eat. on returning, OMG there was bleach on tthe carpeting through the halls. the elevators and halls were filthy... food scattered all over the place. my husband reached into the room to turn thee lights on and the lights wouldnt even come on. I never stepped into the room, just stating this is not the place we wanted, we need to leave. we returned to the front desk to find that there were no refunds. The attendant told us at that time that he placed us on the 7th floor because he didnt want us getting disturbed in the middle of the nt with people partying and beatig on our door. He told us that he knew we hadnt been in the hotel and would let his manager know that we were unhappy with the conditions and to contact her the next day... the next day no notes were made and no one knew anything. basically i paid 170.00 to park in there garage for 2 hours... I am soooo upset. actually feel violated. My husband is one of the highest NCOs in the state and I am in law school. this was not our type of resort. I believe the people were awrae of that when they sold us a room. I will see what I can do from here about contacting the regulatory board in this state for hotels. someone needs to be aware how filthy and unexceptable this place is. I will never return to daytona beach to stay in any hotel after this experience. We have contact with many families through out the tristate area and if nothing else I will be satisfied by just spreading the information about this hotel to them and to you readers. BEWARE!!! very concerned citizen.

3rd WORST Hotel in America
By Unhappy Traveler, 9/1/11
Trip Adviser has the Desert Inn rated the "3rd Dirtiest Hotel in America" .... unfortunately we did not see this review until after checking in. While the hotel is old, this is not a valid reason for it's filth, stench and mildew. Fortunately we were just passing through Daytona and only stayed one night. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT even consider this "FLOP HOUSE"!!!!! In looking at the yahoo reviews it is fairly obvious that the owners or employees of the Desert Inn have padded the ratings. Note how many of the 5 Star ratings are placed on the same day.

Great weekend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/11
My family and I stayed for 3 days and had a great time. I cannot believe the postings about the staff not being friendly and professional. I would have to say everyone of the staff I encounted was very nice and helpful. My granddaughter is ten and enjoyed the pool and all of the activities that were provided at the pool. The pool is large as well as the kiddie pool. Yes, the motel does have some age but it was not nasty as someone stated. The AC works great it is cool everywhere in the motel. To the people that complained go pay an extra hundred dollars a night and have a great time but I bet they will still find something not right no matter where they stay.

Will not be a repeat customer
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/25/11
My husband and I travel frequently for our jobs. He is a pilot and I was a flight attendant. I am also an experienced travel ball parent, having stayed in various hotels and motels all over the US and abroad. Trust me when I say... The 2 rooms offered to me were the worst I have ever seen. I am sure this hotel was once a beautiful sight. But now, it is a rundown, and in my opinion, unsafe hotel. First I will list the positives: The staff was very nice, working with what they have. The pool deck is lovely, something right out of old Hollywood, and well maintained. Right on the beach. Clean sheets and towels. Now the Negatives: The first room was on the 6th floor..very old narrow and dark hallway with smelly worn out carpet. Door did not seat properly and did not lock. Room had newer furniture but was so small I felt trapped...low drop ceiling. Walls and ceiling were old but had a fresh coat of paint slapped on, and I mean literally slapped on. Veranda was covered in cigarette butts and rail was rusty. This floor felt like a fire trap to me. I asked to be moved. Next room was on the 4th floor. Cleaner hallway and carpeting.. slight smell. The room was a little larger. door locked. sheets and towels were clean. cigarette butts on veranda. I kept this room for safety purposes even though there was mold on the airconditioning vent and the ceiling extending 4 feet from the vent. Bathroom ceiling tiles were moldy and water stained, falling out of frame.Closet was removed from hall with just an empty space and mismatched floor where it once was. Moldy grout between tiles in bathroom. I did not sleep well and checked out the following morning before 11:00. I was told I would not be charged for the second night since I checked out before 11. I was given a check out reciept with a credit for the second day. Now, I see that I was billed for both days. When I called to see what happened the gentleman told me that I was given a credit to my account for the HOTEL.. not my credit card. I have never ever had this happen to me. I was staying on a per night rate, not a special rate, this I would understand. That doesn't even make sense. Why would I need a credit for a hotel I'm checking out of. I have had to check out of many hotels early over the years and have never been charged for days I did not use. Check Your bill and check your credit card or debit card for charges. They have told me that they will issue me a refund in 2 weeks. I'll update if I see it. If you must stay here, ask to see the room first. Try to arrive before evening so that you can find alternate lodging if neccessary. I am sure some of the ocean view suites on the first few floors would be livable. Just look at your room before you sign or give a credit card. Safety and health were my concerns as I had my children with me. I wonder if newer hotels are held to a higher safety standard...exp. wheelchair accessible, wider hallways and doors, clearly marked emergency exits. As for me, there will be no repeat visit.

AWFUL PLACE TO STAY!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/21/11
I had to switch rooms when I got there because the first room had mold and the ceiling was coming down from a leak in the bathroom. Then the next room was nice at first with a spa in it, but after I stayed here for a night I realized I was getting bitten up and then had to go to a doctor that told me it was bed bug's. I have never had this happen in my life and would never stay here again. Even if someone paid me I would not stay here. The only good thing about this place was the location and the Bartender Joe.

This place is filthy
By Bruce, 3/17/11
DO NOT STAY HERE. I can't even begin to describe just how bad this place is. Staff is rude and completely unprofessional There is feces all over the hotel grounds animal and human. The rooms look like they've never been cleaned. Inches of dust on walls, beds are stained beyoond belief, hair food and garbage in the sheets. Mold on the tiles and in bathroom. Just pure filth, I stayed here for bike week, we ended up pushing the beds to side and going to buy air mattress and our own blankets and pillows.

Biggest Shithole I have ever seen
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/3/11
This place was dirty, smelly, no water pressure, bugs, broken doors that don't lock, bed bugs, horrible food, no hot water, everything in rooms was old, and outdated, and the staff was HORRIBLE. This place should have a visit from the Florida Health Department.

We had alot of fun
By Gary Smith, 10/27/09
I recently took my wife and two small childeren to the Desert Inn for a weekend get away from work in Orlando and it was great. We all had an amazing time the staff was so friendly they went out of their way to make us happy and comfortable my kids were smiling the entire trip and were upset to leave. My wife and I had an amazing time and left in the best mood I think either of us have been in for a months now. This was with out a doubt one of the best vacations I've ever taken, this hotel is very family friendly.

Great time at the "DI"!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/09
I just got home from a weekend at the desert inn with the girlies and I have to say I read a whole bunch of these reviews…..THEY ARE ALL WRONG! We all had the most AMAZING TIME! I haven’t had that much fun since school started! The hotel is not “Dirty” or “Unclean” and is actually very pretty, the staff is so friendly and willing to help and they even joke around with you and give you a good laugh. We were also right near all the clubs in Daytona and went like every night lol. We had an ocean view room on the 3rd floor and it was beautiful. The pool deck was amazing although we spent most our time at the inside heated pool (It was chilly last weekend lol) this is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at we are all definitely going back for spring break in 2010!
