Great Hotel Except Housekeeping
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/6/07
The front desk was outstanding. They were extremely, helpful, friendly and went out of their way to assist. Hotel is in a great location. The Churchill is undergoing a major multi- million dollar rennovation. Lots of dust and the construction workers try to keep the noise to a minimum. The big downer was the hotel housekeeping staff. If you don't conform to their schedule forget about your room getting cleaned. Found out they don't like changing sheets, even if you use their door knob request system. When you go out be sure to tell the front desk you need to have your room cleaned and sheets changed, if you desire. Then it will be done. Don't assume it will be taken care of. I found out the hard way twice. Second time was at 10PM when I returned. They did take off $30 off my final bill as an amends. That was polite. Hope the fitness room gets a major upgrade w/the rennovation.

Really Bad Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/6/07
I planned my stay to around a visit from my brother in law (from out of state. He works in the music industry and the rest of the crew as well as band members were booked in about 40 rooms there from Sunday through Tuesday. On Sunday eve (1030 pm) we returned from Adams Morgan and went to the bar looking for a nightcap and a snack. The bar was opened until 1100 but instead of being greeted in a friendly manner the bar tender abruptly told us we could get something to go because he was closing soon. He ended up allowing us to finish a drink and a shared salad after which we left. The following day we stopped at the front desk and inquired about the hours of closing for that evening as the crew/band were looking to get together after returning from the venue where the concert was held. We were told the bar closed at 1230 pm but that the bartender that eve would stay open later to accomodate us. Based on the previous eve I encouraged my brother in law to talk to a manager but there was none on duty. Needless to say, when we returned to the hotel at 1200 midnight the bar was closed and we were told by the front desk staff that the bartender went home. Of course we were a little miffed and were finally allowed back into the bar- where the bartender (who went home!) informed us he only had a bottle of Champagne and Riesling wine to offer as someone had already locked up the liquor and he had no access to it. Anyway, I would describe the bartender as surly. So that's my comment on service. We ended up piling into a few cabs to have something in Adams Morgan (It was bitterly cold for this weekend). Second, the price was more than I have paid for hotel rooms much nicer in appearance and ammenities. The rooms were spacious but dirty and the carpets were worn, floors were squeaky, and they even ran a cable for the TV right under the carpet. In addition, my brother in law almost fell three feet down into the shaft of the elevator when it did not stop even with the lobby floor. If you are used to hotels such as the Hyatt, boutique hotels such as Rouge or Monaco, or even the Westin, you will be sadly disappointed with this one. If you pay more than 90$ per night you are paying too much!! The only saving grace is it's proximity to great restaurants and nightclubs.

Quiet respite during hectic conference
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/06
We stayed at the Churchill to attend a conference in the Hilton across the street. The Churchill was beautiful, spacious, quiet, grand, and a restive place to return to after a day of meetings. The suite was bigger than my first apartment, with privacy. Staff were quietly friendly, smiles, gracious. Housekeeping invisible (but room attended to regularly). I will definitely stay here again and again. Internet special gave a great rate - weekdays more expensive than weekend. Romantic spacious getaway. Great restaurants nearby also! King bed was comfortable.
