Box Canyon Lodge & Hot Springs, Ouray

Perfect in every way;clean ,comfortable,convenient&courtious.The soking tubs at various temperatures are a real treat.The basic breakfast was enough to get our day started. 5 stars from me.

This facility is very nicely maintained. The room was clean and well decorated. There are 4 soaking tubs to choose from on the hill behind the motel. The staff is friendly and the motel is within easy walking distance to downtown. We had a great time and will stay at BCL the next time we are in Ouray!

We stay at the BCL at least 4 times per year. Coming from Grand Junction it makes for a great stop while heading to Telluride or Durango for skiing. In prior years, they have offered half price Telluride lift tickets which in essence cause you room to be better than free if you have 2 guests. The rooms are very simple but have adequate necessities and are always clean. The staff has always been great at helping us make room and dinner reservations and is very knowlegable about the town and surrounding areas. If you are in the mood for a video, BCL has a large (300+) library of DVD's that you can check out for free and bring back to your room. The main attraction is the hot springs. The springs come from a natural geothermal source and are fed into 4 tubs at varying temperatures. The tubs are wood and have room for 4. they are situated on the hillside with great views of town and the surrounding mountains. This in the feature that will keep us coming back again and again. It is also the source of our one complaint. The tubs are only open until 10:00 pm which is far too early. Many times, we will be out at a restaurant and not have time for an evening soak. Please leave the tubs open later for guests, it would make a good experience great.

We live in northern Colorado, so we decided to visit Ouray for a quick weekend getaway. We were lucky that the weekend we picked (the last weekend of April) was still in off-peak season, so our rates at the lodge were very reasonable. This was a last-minute trip, so when we called to book a room for 2 nights, they had a suite open the first night, then we had to move to a standard room the second night. The suite was beautiful and very large. There were two separate rooms- a bedroom and a living room. We wished we could have stayed in it both nights. Moving to the standard room went smoother than we expected. We packed up our suitcases and went on a hike, and the cleaning staff moved all of our luggage to our new room for us! The standard room was also very clean and a nice room. Our favorite part of staying at the Box Canyon Lodge was the hot springs. They are rather private and they weren't very crowded during the times we wanted to use them (of course, this was also in the off-peak season, but the lodge was full). It was so relaxing to sit in the little hot tubs with the beautiful mountains towering around us. The other nice thing about this lodge is its proximity to the Ouray waterfall. This is a short hike, maybe a mile or less, and it was a very neat experience to see the falls. We tooks lots of great pictures on this trip. The front desk staff were extremely helpful. We asked them for restaurant recommendations, and they showed us a binder with all of the local restaurants' menus. They also called ahead to make us a reservation, so by the time we had walked up the hill to the restaurant, we didn't have to wait long for our table. Book early, as this hotel seems to fill up fast!

We went on our honeymoon! We love everything about this hotel! We love the shopping and the places to eat in the small town. The people are very nice, we saw an english bulldog there and we ended up buying one a year or so later.

This is an a traditional motel with entrances from the outside. Our family loved the natural hot spring fed hot tubs that were terraced up the hillside behind the hotel. Our family of four sat in the hot tubs, gazed at the nearby mountains until dark and then gazed up at the stars. The hot tubs are for guest use only. Our room was absolutely spotless! The only negative thing I can say about this place is the rooms are quite small. However the charm of the place, location, and friendliness of the owners is definitely worth a trip back. We would definitely stay there again.
