Welcome to the Rodeway Inn Monterey! We have 21 rooms that were recently renovated with Microwave, cable TV and showtime, espn & direct dial phones. All room have air conditiong and a heated outdoor pool available. Business travelers will appreciate wireless Internet access in some rooms. We also have a restaurant nearby, lounge, tanning and nails salon, and beauty salon nearby. For your enjoyment we are between 5 and 20 minutes from all the following attractions; Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, Monterey Bay Aquarium, beaches, sailing, parasailing, surfing, golf, hiking and bike trails.10% tax +$.50per room per night not included in totalThe hotel is minutes from colleges and institutes like:California State University at Monterey Bay Monterey Peninsula College Naval Postgraduate School Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) This Monterey, CA hotel provides easy access to the highway and airport. 1/2 the rooms smell like barf

The owner greets you in a 'wife-beater t-shirt,' the rooms smell like fresh vomit, the lightswitches don't work, the towel racks are missing, the paints chipped and falling from the ceiling. And, that's just the beginning. This bathrooms are fresh from the Bate's Hotel for they'll remind you of the shower scene in Psycho. You'd have to be psycho to stay there. The worst motel I've ever been in and Rodeway should be ashamed to put their name on the sign.

Liars and theives

When I called to book a 2 night stay I was quoted $122 for 2 nights by Vanessa. When I arrived, the manager said he could not give me that rate, that he had to charge me $129 a night. He said Vanessa did not work there anymore and never even apologized about changing my rate. Who does that?? When I called the front desk the next day for a hair dryer, Vanessa answered!! When I checked out, I called the manager on his lies. First you change me total from $122 to over $200, then you lie and never even apologize. Not to mention this place was a scary dirty nasty place that I would never stay at again.

Should have booked across the street :)

There was nothing I liked. Everything is junky and old. I was scared to sleep with the blankets and brought my own pillow and blanket. Dirty door, hole in bathroom door, light bulb not working, poor lighting, no hairdryer, microwave next to bathroom sink, thin walls all around making squeaky noises when people walk upstairs, no free ice (for .25 cents) but ice bucket in room, no trash can, dirty towels with brown marks, no swimming pool, and just in case, I took a shower with my flip flops on. :)

customer service lacking...

when you ask for a non-smoking room, generally the front desk people tell you if they do or do not have one... in this case, I was told I would be in a nonsmoking room and was given a smoking room... in fact, I was given a room upstairs because all they had downstairs, they said was a smoking room... plus, they said they were so busy for Easter, yet they had a lot of vacancies... it's not difficult to tell the difference between a smoking and nonsmoking room... the ashtray in the room, and the lack of the sign on the door were clues... plus the smell of smoke on the bedding... I don't appreciate hotels trying to fill rooms at my expense... also, the maid never showed up to service my room.

They don't have a POOL!

They lied they don't have a pool. They have access to pools one across the highway and the other next door. However, the one across the street had a broken heater and the other one wasn't heated up. The children were very up-set they really wanted to swim. The shower was only lukewarm to cold and guest have to pay for ice. This places was a very bad choice for us. We will never stay there again.

Don't ever stay here!

Please learn from our mistake and choose another motel. This was the worst motel I've ever stayed in: my room reeked of smoke, and had burn marks on just about every surface in the room, there was no chain lock/dead bolt on the door (so I didn't feel very safe), the remote control didn't work and had no cover for the battery area, the toilet paper dispenser was completely broken, the "closet" area was a joke (3 hangers above the TV area?), the light fixture in the bathroom was missing its cover (just a bare bulb), the walls were paper thin and you could hear everyone coming and going all night, the heater was some sort of rinky dink wall unit -- need I go on? I cannot believe it was listed as a 2-star rating! On top of all this, they were listed as $49/night, but I stayed here on 7/2/05 and the total came to over $100!! What a rip off -- I would not recommend staying in this motel.

Paper thin walls!

Although we got exactly what we wanted (a cheap room in Monterey), I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to sleep! We had, literally, less than a foot of room between our television and bed, causing us to walk sideways across the room. The room is VERY small with hardly any amenities (no ironing board/iron, no coffeemaker, etc.). In addition, the walls must be made of paper...we were kept up all night by our two adjoining neighbors arguing, talking, snoring, taking showers, etc. We got very little sleep and, for our terrible night, the front desk only refunded 10% of the price we paid. We had even called the management at 1am to try to rectify the noise problem, but all they did was call the room and tell them to be quiet...which we heard through the paper thin walls! Not a bad hotel if you're looking for something cheap close to Monterey attractions, but be prepared to get little sleep in this loud, paper thin walled hotel!

Good for the Price

Our criteria was "inexpensive" and "centrally located", and they delivered on both. The room (103) was very small, with less than a foot between the end of the bed and the T.V. cabinet, and the decor was nothing special.

It was a great place because the lady at the desk (I assume owner &/or manager) was extremely friendly, helpful and nice. I was in the office when some lady was very rude to her and the lady behind the desk couldn't have been nicer to the rude lady.

Ice costs $.25 a bucket, and the soda machine is $1.00. The parking is small (enough for one car per room) but well-lit. There is no pool or jacuzzi, but you can go across the street and use the one there. Unfortunately, you can only use it until 8pm.
Coffee is available at the front desk in the morning. No coffee pot or mini-fridge or clock in the room, but there is a microwave.

For what it's worth, I hope this helps people.
