Top Drawer Little Spot
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/16/08
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cabrillo Garden Inn. Lily, Olga, Juan and the rest of the staff were so accomodating and helpful.I needed to attend an Urgent Care and they found the clinic for us. We wanted tickets and directions to the Zoo, Museums and restaurants and they mapped it and made calls and reservations for us. The room was cheery, bed was comfortable, bathroom was small but very clean and had a window we could open to keep it from being too steamy. No pool, but this was a January trip and we were looking to do things in the city and not sit at a pool. We met other guests at the warm and delicious breakfast and they too agreed that this little place (30 or so rooms) was a gem that is priced right. We spent four nights there and would definitely stay there again. We found this motel in a book call "Hidden San Diego" and then looked it up on the internet. We had a rented car, but location is convenient to their orchestra hall and restaurants or a hike to the zoo.

Quaint
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/07
For a motel-like setting, this place has charm. Potted plants and Spanish style furnishings give it a homey-cozy feeling. The parking lot is small and it's not in the thick of downtown; no nearby restaurants without a few-block trek. But we'd definitely stay there again. Oh, and if you have a chance, check out the pub "Stout" - excellent food and service!

Loved the Cabrillo Garden
By JenniferE, 10/08/07
I just wanted to let you know that this hotel was really GREAT. Instead of feeling like hotel, it felt more like staying at someone’s home. The staff was very friendly and willing to help out if we needed anything. It was the first time I felt like a guest instead of a customer. You should be very proud of the service this hotel offers it is exemplary. I will definitely be staying again.

Avoid this hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/19/07
The hotel is located in a crummy part of town. After looking at our room, my wife and I left to find another hotel, as she did not feel safe this this part of town. Even after cancelling the room by phone, the hotel refused to refund the deposit. The hotel lobby is tiny. It's about 15 by 15 feet. I can't imagine having more than three to four people eat breakfast in this location. For $15 a night more you can stay at a great Best Western in La Jolla; just 15 minutes north. I was there before I made the mistake of wanting to stay downtown. We ended up staying at the Embassy Suites which was fantastic.

Just Okay
By I Hate Gaslamp, 08/17/07
The Hotel is very clean & within walking distance of the Gaslamp District. Also, easy access to the 163 to get to Balboa Park. The place was very clean & MOST of the employees were great. The view of Downtown & Petco Park was nice, but only two rooms get this view. Also, they did not tell us that two very large construction projects are going on next door & the banging starts before 7 AM! Basically, it's a Motel with better plants & a very good cleaning crew. We paid 139 plus tax. Next time, I will pay extra for a nicer place with a pool. Lack of pool, especially in the summer, makes it average at best. I will not be back.

A surprise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/14/07
We picked this hotel because it was economical but were delighted with the small intimate ambiance. The staff was great and the location was ideal for us. The room was small but very clean and attractively decorated.

it was great!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/24/07
We recently stayed at the Cabrillo Garden Inn. It was a very pleasant stay. The hot breakfast gave us a good start to the day as well as an opportunity to chat with other guests from around the world. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with directions, restaurant recommendations and local attraction information. The room was lovely with a large comfortable bed. My husband appreciated the internet hookup in the room. I liked the in-room refrigerator. We were pleasantly surprised by the room rate since our friends who stayed at nearby hotels were paying much more for the same stay. The inn had a cozy atmosphere where we felt we were staying among friends. Thanks for a great time in San Diego!
