Great stay
By TAM, 1/31/12
Great place to stay. I have read other reviews and if you are not stuck up and high maintenance then this is the place. A great value and location. We arrived later in the evening and were greeted by a very nice lady who was very helpful in getting us set up in our room. Throughout the weekend she was also very helpful in recommending places to go and things to do. She also gave great directions. The room are spacious, clean and quiet. It is located close to the freeway but without the noise and the aquarium, cannery row and beach are easily accessible. My husband and I went to Monterey for our anniversary and spent as much time in the hotel as out. Microwave and fridge were great for dinners in. The only drawback that we experienced was the continental breakfast was a bit lacking for someone who is gluten intolerant, but really we weren't there for the breakfast. A great place to stay.

Rude Management !!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/19/11
This experience was not what I expected based on positive reviews I read. Refused my "Value Card Club" free upgrade because "you already got a good price". No wi-fi unless you're in the office. We picked up the "free" wi-fi from Fireside Hotel next door. Fridge was broken. Random power outages. Owner/manager rude, argumentative with guests. No stage coach in front, only broken pieces. No where relaxing to sit outside in the morning to enjoy a cup of coffee and cheap pre-wrapped sweet rolls. Only allowed to have 1 car in their lot. Must park 2nd car on street! Decided to leave after 5 nights. They argued with me and wanted to charge me for entire week I had booked. STAY ANY WHERE ELSE in Monterey.... many choices !!

We will absolutely stay again!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/12/09
This place is perfectly renovated, clean, quiet, off the beaten track yet easy drive to Aquarium and such, great drought resistent plants nursery across the street. Staff was fine and helpful (but we aren't "high maintenance" sorts). Gave us an upper floor room, kindly requested a hope that our 6yo. was not too loud (thinking of the other guests and kindly communicating that to us). Great beds, pillows and the room actually felt clean! When I realized I had left stuff behind (in room safe) they graciously found it and returned it to me! Really the best value of all my stays in Monterey!!

Never Again
By Orange, 10/23/08
The room was not impressive, felt very dirty on the carpet. Skinny towels were very gross and I had to fight with the lady at the front desk for towels. She told me there is a $2.00 charge for EACH towel given and then had told my husband when we checked out,,that she forgot to tell me to bring down the 2 extra USED towels to give them back to her before we left! I was shocked! I have traveled all over the US..and in Europe and found this woman to be very rude to paying customers. I told her that it was very insulting to Americans,,we just came from renting a lovely home in Mendocino for $ 400 a night,,and I said,,"Do we look like towel thieves to you???" She said that they fill up every night,,,I said I would never return...I felt very insulted. She reminded us that if any of these plush towels were missing,,that charge would be on our credit card..Pay a few dollars more if you can and be treated with respect elsewhere!

Great place for the price
By Erica K, 7/29/08
Stayed here with my boyfriend over the weekend, and everything was great. Free wifi, beautiful King room (215) with luxury granite counters. Very close to downtown Monterey, and the beach. Really great bargain for Monterey, staff friendly and very helpful.

Clean and Comfortable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/08
I was very impressed with this place. It's very well put together. Try and stay in the corner rooms because they are the most private and nicest King size rooms. I asked to see a few rooms before selecting mine, and I really liked 215 because its in the corner. It's right off the highway but in a quiet area really close to everything. It's a bit of a distance to the closest restaurant, which is walking distance, but its really ideal if you are seeing Monterey because it's centrally located.

Nicest Rooms
By Chodman, 7/7/08
If you are going to Monterey, stay here. There are alot of motels in Monterey, and I've stayed at many of them. The management just went through and remodelled this whole property and is it a hidden jewel. The rooms are even nicer than the Double Tree, and it's just a small motel. Seriously, go check this place out. They have a really neat garden, and its just a well put together property. I stay here every time I go down to golf in Monterey. Perfect for me and my wife.

A little pricey, but not bad...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/8/07
I read several reviews for this motel and was a little on the skeptical side when booking. Location was good for me as I was attending a conference at the college that was truly right across the street. I felt that it was overpriced even though I was given a "discount" when booking. The room was ok size, and the bathroom was almost adequate. The shower was old, but functional, the calking around the top of the shower was coming apart and in not so good repair, and the shower curtain rod could have been replaced instead of covered with plastic to make it look better. Housekeeping was pleasant and came all 3 days we were there and did a good job. So overall, again, I feel I paid a little too much for the quality of the room, but it wasn't as bad as some other reviewers made it out to be... P.S. the continental breakfast is just prewrapped pastry's and coffee. Thank God for Denny's and McDonalds!

Poor service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/14/06
I do not expect much for 50 bucks a night on an event weekend, but certain things were unnacceptable. I note with interest that other guests have been denied towels from the front desk. I had to argue for five minutes to get a clean towel, but when I made it clear to the night manager that I was not going to leave the office until I had one, she relented. It was as dirty as the one I had found in my room when I arrived, which is what prompted me to ask for a new one in the first place. The room itself was clean, no tobacco smell, first rate TV, and there is a pool as well. But the laundering service leaves much to be desired, and the insulting behavior of the management means I won't be returning.

Not so good
By George, 6/20/05
A request for an additional set of towels was denied after we arrived and showered. No hairdryers in room (inconvenient) but available from front desk by request. No individual shampoo/soap samples (body wash machine available instead) Used filter in coffee machine left by previous occupants. King bed is really two double joined together (not very comfortable). Tenant in morning (7am) extremely vocal and loud waking everyone but hotel mgr. did nothing. Small kiddy pool only.
