Description

WELCOME TO THE SUNSET TOWER HOTEL, WHERE OLD HOLLYWOOD BECOMES NEW. Newly renovated, this landmark 15-story building was designed by architect Leland Bryant in 1929, serving as a residence for everyone from Errol Flynn, Claudette Colbert, John Wayne, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, and Howard Hughes. With its chic restaurant, fabulous spa, and unrivaled views of Los Angeles, the exceptional environment of the Sunset Tower Hotel offers its guests every comfort and amenity. Originally called the Sunset Tower and built as a distinctly Hollywood version of Art Deco, the hotel is now equipped with the latest electronic conveniences, providing the ultimate in privacy and elegance. Rooms range from standard rooms, spacious suites with floor-to-ceiling windows and limestone bathrooms, to spectacular penthouses with separate living and boudoir areas, wraparound terraces, and deep soaking tubs. These superb accommodations come with stylish custom fittings, romantic lighting, and artworks, creating a subtly luxurious feeling. The Sunset Tower is a Hollywood landmark--up to the 1950s it was as much a tourist attraction as the Hollywood sign itself. It has appeared in a number of films, including The Italian Job, Get Shorty, The Player and Strange Days. Its first literary mention was in Raymond Chandler

Run -- don't walk -- away!!!
By ,
We ate at the Tower Bar on Saturday (3/8/08) and were extremely disappointed. It had been a year or two since we last went there, after service was terrible on two different occasions. We'd hoped things had changed, but alas no. Despite being told it was a special occasion during the reservation process, we ended up at an "added" table that was clearly not part of the floor plan. Had anyone in our party been the slightest bit overweight, we wouldn't have even fit into the cramped (and weird) space. Things got worse as we waited 20 minutes for someone (anyone!) to come by and take a drink order. Our waiter (who finally made an appearance around minute 30) was clearly flustered and not on top of his game. We had to ask for several things twice and never had simple things like refilling of water glasses or pouring of wine taken care of. Add to that, the food was less than pedestrian and quite salty. The crab lump's special ingredient was Dijon mustard, which clearly didn't enhance anything. The steak salad entree had stale "sugar coated walnuts" and the short ribs were overcooked and (tasted like they'd been) soaked in salt. All at prices that are ridiculous given the quality (or lack thereof) of the food. The room itself? Beautiful. The pianist and guitarist? Grand. The service, food and rest of the bunch? Horrific. Run, don't walk, as fast as you can from this wallet/tourist trap on the Sunset Strip. What a waste of time, energy, money and special occasion.

location was perfect

The location was perfect and the staff went out of their way to assist us with information on ski packages, tours and shopping. The service was great! The complimentary breakfast was a real treat and a money saver. We met other guests from all over the United States and enjoyed visiting with them.

I got engaged in one of the penthouse suites!

When it was the Argle and I miss it too. It was an amazing place and the staff was amazing! I went about once a month and the staff made me feel so amazing. How could I not miss it? Tamara Lempicka is one of my favorite artist's and I was introduced to her there.

i miss the argyle- am i the only one?
By ,
nothing wrong with the new place, just don't see any reason go back. way too much of the original deco and texture of the argyle is replaced with soulless redesign and furnishings. clean, modern and nice enough, but so uninspired. there's plenty of hotels that look and feel just like it in every city. i miss the argyle for its uniqueness and unpretentious authenticity, like the time-portal that it was.

Sunset Tower, Cipriani, Bar Hemingway, The Redroom at the Clift, classics!
By ,
Sunset Tower IS Hollywood. All that the word 'Hollywood' conjures up in one perfect place. Today's Sunset Tower, with the incredible Demitri, as the perfect host, was what this hotel thought it was in the 70s, 80s, 90s, now is, perfect. A truely classic Hollywood destination. The bar is the centerpiece of a beautiful room one only imagines Romanoff's, The Troc, LaRue & the Polo Lounge. Food is fanstic, not fussy. Feels like you might have experienced it if you've ever seen a noir film. Cocktails devine! Real ones, not just Vodka up with an olive. The simplicity of the food makes it really L.A.. Obviously, hotelier Jeff Klein loves this city. Everything's sumptious but not too too. The outdoor dining feels like your in Lana Turner's backyard. Anywhere you can get a hamburger & fries or fabulous shortribs, a great bottle of wine or a sidecar at the same table at 10pm and still feel chic is luxury. The live music adds the perfect intimate, clubby feel. You could not be anywhere but Hollywood.

Class on the strip.....
By ,
The second we checked in we knew it was a special place, from the amazing views of downtown LA to the old hollywood feel of the building. The Resteraunt The Tower Bar is very dark and elegant, I was seated next to not one but two celebrities. One of the best part of our experience was the gentlemen that parked our car. Every one of them was incredibly helpfull and extremely handsome. They are truly showmen for the hotel. We loved our experience but the staff in the hotel is still working out the kinks. Room service was a little slow and the bell men seemed a bit overwhelmed. We will definitly be back and look forward to pulling up out front to see the valets...
