Run -- don't walk -- away!!!
We ate at the Tower Bar on Saturday (3/8/08) and were extremely disappointed. It had been a year or two since we last went there, after service was terrible on two different occasions. We'd hoped things had changed, but alas no. Despite being told it was a special occasion during the reservation process, we ended up at an "added" table that was clearly not part of the floor plan. Had anyone in our party been the slightest bit overweight, we wouldn't have even fit into the cramped (and weird) space. Things got worse as we waited 20 minutes for someone (anyone!) to come by and take a drink order. Our waiter (who finally made an appearance around minute 30) was clearly flustered and not on top of his game. We had to ask for several things twice and never had simple things like refilling of water glasses or pouring of wine taken care of. Add to that, the food was less than pedestrian and quite salty. The crab lump's special ingredient was Dijon mustard, which clearly didn't enhance anything. The steak salad entree had stale "sugar coated walnuts" and the short ribs were overcooked and (tasted like they'd been) soaked in salt. All at prices that are ridiculous given the quality (or lack thereof) of the food. The room itself? Beautiful. The pianist and guitarist? Grand. The service, food and rest of the bunch? Horrific. Run, don't walk, as fast as you can from this wallet/tourist trap on the Sunset Strip. What a waste of time, energy, money and special occasion.
