Columbia State Historic Park, which boasts the most authentic gold rush buildings in the Mother Lode is only 4 miles away. There you can find stagecoach rides, a candy shop which hand dips its chocolates and pulls its candy canes, a 19th century theatre, an old saloon where you can get sarsaparilla, and shops where you can buy real gold pieces from the river or creek. Yosemite National Park is less then an hour in a half away, so it is easy to go to for the day. Seven golf courses are within a 30 minute drive, ranging from championship to secluded 9-hole course in the pines. In the winter you can snow ski snowmobile, or just play in the snow. Only 30 minutes up the highway. Or many antique shops and boutiques offer unique shopping. In the summer lake sports are only minutes away.
