Will Never Go Back!
By Christine, 7/26/06
When we first showed up there was no valet outside. The girl at the reception desk stayed on the phone while I stood there and finally told me that she had no control over the valet. Not a good start! When we went up to our room, the room was not made up - never had that happen before and it was 7:00 p.m. at night so no excuses. Went back down to the front desk and the ever so helpful girl barely at the end apologized! Can't tell you the last time the elevator was vacuumed. The bathrooms were ridiculously small and the fan didn't work. They only gave us 1 glass even though there were 3 of us in the room. The ice machine didn't work on our floor either. I could go on, but I think by now you get the picture. The one redeaming quality of the hotel is that Il Fornaio is located there. Great restaurant!

Experience a piece of history
By Tom, 7/18/05
The Sainte Claire is a National Historic Site, which there aren't very many of those in San Jose, especially not one you can spend the night in. The location of the hotel is perfect, within walking distance to places such as Original Joe's and Cesar Chavez park. The architechture is really nice; the hotel was restored back to its original 1926 glory when it first opened. Built by TS Montgomery, it was the crown jewel of the South Bay for many years. The bathrooms have some nice tile work, and the top floor windows have really interesting archway designs. The AC in our room didn't seem to work too well, but it was a hot day. Other than that, it was fun to walk around and admire the classic design of the hotel. Try to get a room on the sixth floor facing Cesar Chavez park-the light rail is noisy but the view rocks.

A gem in the high tech world
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/2/05
The Hyatte St. Claire is a great hotel. It has been beautifully restored and is in a good downtown location. Public transportation goes right by the door and is convenient to the San Jose airport. The restaurant, Il Fornaio, is great, too!

Historical Landmark Hotel with a story
By snufericious, 9/13/04
This quaint little historical hotel really gives the sterile Silicon Valley a boost. The decor the Hyatt is beautiful, look up at the ceilings and you too will be amazed at what intricacies went into this.

On the way up on the elevator ( a very small one), I asked the staff about the historical significance of the building. He told me that it used to be a brewery and converted to a hotel in the 50s.

The rooms were very different, lots of character albeit old. The bed wasnt too comfortable, especially the pillows that were square shaped for some reason. But the furnishing of the room realy completed the whole antique look. They're currently upgrading to digital TV so reception was really bad. I thinkthe bathrooms were recently upgraded cos they are STUNNING. Not as luxurious as the ventian bathrooms but they have so much character! Look up at the ceiling in the washroom to find a recess painted with sky and birds. Even the tub was jacuzzi equipped!! (I'm not sure if all rooms come with that).

THe marriott across the street may be newer and fancier, but this hotel has a story to tell. At the price you can get it off priceline, it really is a steal.

Corner View
Situated at a good corner location, this hotel is classy. Hyatt service and style plus some historical details thrown in. A good place to park yourself if in Silicon Valley and San Jose. Great public spaces, nice courtyards, and bars. Il Fornio is part of the hotel for glorious Italian food. Rooms are super plush and comfy and tad on the small side but very nice. Use the valet parking otherwise it can be hard to find a spot.
