Not that great, but you get what you pay for.
This was my annual trip to Disneyland with my wife and son (age 3 at time of review). Last year we stayed at the Holiday Inn Suites near Downtown Disney, which was great. Only drawback with that hotel was the not-so-close proximity to Disneyland and the loud fireworks at night, but we otherwise loved it.
The Clarion was our choice via a Priceline bid, and everything looked OK on the surface. After reading some of the terrible reviews, I was expecting a place that would make Norman Bates look like J.W. Marriott. But here's the bottom line, you get an acceptable (not luxurious or modern) room for about $30-40 less per night than most other hotels in a resort/convention area. The bed was not that firm but OK. The internet access was a joke. Plugging in the network cable gave you nothing and the wireless access was incredibly slow. So I went to the Starbucks at the hotel across the street instead.
The front desk people were nice, but the only problem was with buying shuttle passes. Their machine didn't work, so one lady at the front desk told us to go to the Marriott "across the street." Problem there was that it was next door and not across the street.
This would have been a not-so-bad experience overall had it not been for breakfast in the cafe. We were there on a Monday morning with only a few other groups in there, and the wait was so long, we were ready to leave when our food showed up. The pancakes were cold, the ham was fresh out of the microwave and the bacon was like eating burnt cardboard.
The verdict? It's a hotel in need of both a facelift and an improvement in service. Problem is that if they decide to refurbish the place, the rates will go up. Again, not an awful experience or one that ruined my vacation, but I guarantee that we will not be staying at the Clarion again. Caveat emptor, indeed.
