La Playa Carmel, Carmel-by-The-Sea

The hotel smelled like an old age home. The carpet needs to be replaced. It was stained and dirty. The bathroom floor in our room needed to be scrubbed good. The bathrub was sticky and the room seemed dirty. We lvoed Carmel but would not stay at La Playa again.

As residents of Northern California, we have been staying at the La Playa for years. I love being so close to the ocean, walking through the lovely garden, and relaxing in the quaint European style rooms. BUT we just returned from a pleasant 4 day visit there and realized that the Hotel is getting worn and tatty around the edges; the carpet needs to be replaced and the peachy orange and faded green walls and decor need an update. Also the restaurant. which we had always enjoyed before, is serving food that is a step below the quality of Denny's. We ate there twice and were disappointed in each of the meals. I hope that La Playa has plans to improve its ambiance and its food as we do love the old place and hate to see it go downhill.

We stayed for three nights during a tennis tournament at CVAC. THe Skylight cottage was around the corner from the main hotel with our own parking space. We were pleasantly surprised at the efficient use of space. The Queen-sized bed was cozy, kitchenette easy to use & keep clean and the HDTV was fun to watch at night. We loved the morning walks to town just blocks away from our door. Ocean soundscape was beautiful...two rooms made it easy for me to sleep-in while my husband used his computer in the main area!

the hotel was great. the room was great. the food was great. the pool was great. the service was great. i would stay there again.

Early 1900's restored hotel. Beautiful gardens and pool. Good restaurant and bar. Some rooms can be a bit small, but all garden rooms are spacious and comfortable. Service is attentive and professional. Location is convenient to all points of interest and walk to Ocean Blvd shops and restaurants. Would stay there again and have many times.
