Villa Portofino, Avalon

Great location, close to everything, but on the quieter end of the main street. The rooms are small but nicely decorated and clean. The courtyard and sun deck offer lovely ocean views, but the sun deck is not accessible until 10:00 AM. Two things to be aware of: lots of stairs if you're on the 3rd level, and the continental breakfast really leaves a lot to be desired. This is a nice place, though, if you're looking for a quiet, romantic night. Very helpful staff, and you may leave your bags on site before and after checkout.

We liked the hotel's location along with it's look and feel. Our room was cute but it was a little tight even for just two of us. We would stay there again and thought their rates were a good value for Avalon. One negative for us was the so called continental breakfast, it was hardly enough to fuel us up for a walk to find a real breakfast.

Made a reservation at Villa Portofino for the last week of Dec 2009. Bad experience from the start. Problem 1: Never received any confirmation and had to call to follow up. Turned out reservation had been incorrectly made for during the week, and to make it for the correct date, I would be charged $100 extra. Problem 2: Didn't want to pay such high rates during the off-season so canceled reservation and asked for a refund (they charge credit cards for the full amount immediately after booking). When making the reservation, I had been told I would be issued a full refund if I canceled 7 days prior to the check-in date. However, when the refund came in, it was minus a mysterious reservation fee that had never been mentioned. After being bounced around a couple employees, Assistant Manager Daniel tells me that this was part of the policy, and that I should have read the website even though I had made the reservation over the phone with him and he had personally told me about the full refund. Problem 3: Couple friends called Villa Portofino during this time. Each person was given a different rate, although the Assistant Manager assured me that the rate available on the website was the only one. Summary: Didn't stay there, but the whole partial refund/inconsistent rates was off-putting enough.

We enjoyed the European atmosphere as well as the friendly staff. The view was excellent from our room. I highly recommend this hotel. It was cheaper than all the surrounding hotels and was a much better location as well - quieter.

We liked that it was quiet and that most of the people there were couples. It had the most adorable Italian decor. The rooms were clean and and well appointed. The staff was oober friendly and very accommodating. They had a continental breakfast, free wi-fi, and beach towels. The only downside was that our room was a bit on the small side, but we got the cheapest room, so maybe that's why.

My husband and I just stayed at the Villa Portofino Hotel and we had such a nice experience. The staff was so nice to us. They went out of their way to make sure our trip to Catalina was a great one. The location was perfect because we were right accross from the ocean and we were on the main street where all the shops and restaurants are. Our room was clean and had everything we needed. We will be going back next year. Thak you to the staff at the VP.

This hotel was great. Right across the street from the beach. It is located on the boardwalk, so you can walk to all the restaurants, shops,and activities. The staff here was very friendly. Definately would stay here again!

Instantly impressed with the professional, welcoming atmosphere. Our room had a cozy feel and was impeccably clean. The service was wonderful- felt like we were VIP guests the entire time. Though a tad smaller than some hotels, this charming get-a-way has got to be the hidden secret of this quaint town! Little surprises are everywhere. It is located right smack in the middle of everything. And the view from the upper deck is by far one of the best in Avalon! The restaurant is great! Delicious food and the place is gorgeous. Equal to any five star restaurant anywhere. We would love to come back again and again!
