Extremely Bad Management

This review is based only on their customer service, not a hotel stay.
The Hills Hotel of Laguna Niguel, formally the Holiday Inn until about a month ago. When it was the Holiday Inn, it was a great South Orange County meeting place for professional networking groups and 1 to 1 business meetings in their welcoming lobby. I had enjoyed many prospect meetings there over the past few years and always referred other organizations to take advantage of their meeting areas that were available. With my family being from NY and me living close by, this would be the hotel stay of choice in the past. I can honestly say now that not only did the name and the owner change, but much more as well.
I am a member of a large business networking group that used to meet at the former Holiday Inn and scheduled a meeting with someone from my group this morning at the new Hills Hotel. Meeting time was 9:00am and upon arrival I noticed the parking lot had only 12 cars in it with mine being one of them. I felt compassion for the new owner because it's the week before Christmas and the hotel is empty. I parked and came inside to find myself eye contact with the 2 people working front desk, but without a hello. I then sat in the large 20' by 20' lobby and waited for the other party in my meeting. She arrived and we sat together and began our meeting. About 10 minutes into us having a quite conversation in an empty hotel, a gentleman approached us and spoke his first words saying "are you guests" I said no and he went on to say that he was the owner and the lobby was for guests only. He continued to say that if we wanted to go to the restaurant and buy something, then we could stay. We packed up and went across the street to Starbucks.
Sad to see an owner that would rather have an empty lobby for guests that he doesn't have rather than 2 local professional business owners in his lobby.
