Not the best B&B
By Steph, 06/29/09
I have stayed at over 10 different B&Bs throughout the Bay Area and Beyond. This was my least favorite. It was B&B prices for Cheap Hotel quality. Cons: The food was horrible (undercooked in one case and covered in ants on another occasion), the beds were like a cheap hotel with those foam-like blankets (most places have feather duvets and down pillows - not here), My back hurt in the morning from the horrible pillows and mattress (room 11 has a horrible lumpy mattress). Pros: The people who work there are wonderful and the view is incredible. The living room also had a nice ambiance for sitting and reading and watching the ocean.

Couldn't have been more perfect
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/17/08
We just arrived home after spending seven days at Green Gables Inn celebrating our 25th anniversary. We met in Monterey and when we decided to go back I spent a lot of time selecting a place to stay. We could not have asked for more. The bed was like falling into a nest - plenty of pillows, wonderful mattress, thick down comforter for some chilly nights. The staff was there for everything we needed from restaurant recommendations to mundane requests regarding our stay, and nearly invisible other times allowing us to pretend we were the only two people in the place. Views are spectacular, just cross the street and you're on the path to the wharf or to the lighthouse. Coming back in from an early morning walk along the bay to a full breakfast with fruit, eggs, breads or pastry, juice and coffee....this is the definition of pampering. The only thing that competed is ending the day with a glass of sherry in a jetted tub before wrapping in a thick terry robe. I could not recommend this b&b more highly and cannot overstate how anxious I am to go back.

Annual Visitor
By many, 09/10/05
Few places in the world offer such hospitality coupled with breathtaking surroundings. We have sat many an afternoon enjoying their delicious tea & tasty treats while watching the deer come up from a stroll along the ocean and cross the street directly in front of us to go to their park up the street. But don't worry, once they're gone, you still have the playful otters to keep you occupied. Read the many journals! It's a peek into the life of that historic Inn which has seen everything from the days of horse and buggy to the days of space shuttles. Grenn Gables offers privacy OR opportunities to meet people from all over the globe. September is a great time to go if you want to experience the Monterey Jazz festival. We can't say enough wonderful things about it. Daniel & Antoniette Saunders

The Quintessential B&B
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/04/05
A place that restores the soul. With decor that envelopes but does not overwelm, one can't help but snuggle into this cocoon of serenity. A main room with tall windows, a fireplace, chessboard, and comfortable furniture invites you out of your well appointed room to read, converse with fellow guests, or watch the waves crash on the shoreline. The public rooms and many of the private rooms boast one of the most spectacular views of the ocean you could ask for. Besides a great view, the dining room features a full cookie jar, and coffee and teas most of the day. The breakfast was good with a nice variety. We weren't there for afternoon wine and snacks.

Once there, you leave the world behind. There are no TVs, but your room has a radio. Rooms are romantic and well appointed with comfortable beds, sitting areas, reading materials and teddy bears. Some rooms have private baths, but many share.

The Inn is about half way between Lovers Point and Cannery Row (Monterey Bay Aquarium); an easy drive to both, but why would you give up a fifteen minute walk along the shoreline?

Exquisitely Charming
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/31/04
I found staying at the Green Gables Inn, like stepping into the past. All the charm and grace of the 1880's when this beautiful Victorian house was built, plus the friendly and accomidating staff, made my stay one I will not forget. Breakfast is served buffet style and the view from the tables overlook the ocean. Some rooms share bathrooms with other guests, but with the friendly and courteous guests I experienced, that was no problem. The fixtures such as the bathtub with legs, was nostalgic and fun. I recommend this adventure to all those that enjoy the elegance of the Victorian era and a friendly atmosphere.

Romantic, cozy, charming, and relaxing. A room with an ocean view is the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion.
