Amazing!
By ,
This is what a 5 diamond hotel should be! Upon arriving at 1:00 pm ( before the normal 3:00 p.m.) to drop our luggage off to do some exploring before our room would be ready, much to our surprise, not only was it ready, we received an up grade. We had a room in new tower on the corner with the most amazing views from both windows! Super friendly staff. Great for christmas card picture! So pretty!

horrible visitor experience
By ,
In August, I booked a room at the Fairmont Hotel San Francisco from Sept. 29 - Oct. 2, as I was attending a conference there. On Sept. 29th at 4 pm, I attempted to check in, only to be told they were unable to fulfill my reservation. At the exact same time, my legal partner and his wife were also checking in, and received a room, even though he had made his reservation much later than I. When I was told they could not provide me with the accommodations I had reserved, I asked if that meant no one else would be able to check in that night. After much hemming and hawing, the manager finally found a room for my husband and myself. It was the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. I then found out both my secretary and my associate (each of whom I was paying to stay at the hotel), who checked in AFTER I did were put in SUITES. My partner's wife complained about her room, and they put her in another! The next day I again spoke with management staff, and their lame attempt to rectify the situation was to offer me a free bottle of wine. I ask you, was that not a pathetic attempt at customer service? What I wanted then, and want now, is someone to explain to me, when obviously other rooms were available, and I had booked far in advance, why I was first told that I could not be accommodated and then put in a substandard room. I don't think that is too much to ask, a reasonable explanation for such abominable treatment.

A major disappointment...
By ,
We stayed in the tower. We booked a room on line for a king size bed , non smoking on a high floor, bay view. Upon checking in at the desk we were told that we had booked a smoking room city view. Lesson learned about the Fairmont is that when they do not have your room they will book something else without you knowledge, .The best they could do was city view 2 queen size beds, We took it. The room had two double beds instead of two queens that they said were in the room. Again misrepresentation, The noise form the adjacent room was loud and annoying which I understand is a problem in the tower section. Conceriage was not very helpful when approached the next day for help in seeing the city. We were told we could walk to Fisherman.s Wharf. (trust me it is a long SF (hills) walk.) Health club just ok. . garage parking expensive. lobby is beautiful... .

We loved it!
By ,
The hotel staff were very professional and treated us like royalty. They upgraded our room, the view was wonderful of the bay, Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. The only problem was in the morning, the windows had fogged up and we could no longer see our beautiful view. My husband said that someone in the hotel told him that there was a problem with the ventilation system in the building. We stayed in the tower. So, next time we will ask to stay in another part of the building, unless they fix the problem. The food was fabulous. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Good choice. The Tonga room is expensive with small portions, but fun. The Laurel Court has anything you want, practically. Good food. The breakfast was wonderful. My husband loved the buffet breakfast and I loved my Meyer Lemon ricotta cheese pancakes with maple syrup and sausages. The coffee was great, also. Wonderful atmosphere. We really enjoyed it. It was a little expensive, but worth it. They were offering a King Tut package which included 20% off of parking if you were driving a hybrid car, which we have. Also, with the price of the room, included was 2 drinks from the bar, and 2 VIP tickets to see the King Tut exhibit at the De Young museum.. with no waiting in lines to get in. We really enjoyed our stay in SF. We love the city and will go back many times to visit. The cable cars stop right in front of the hotel and will take you to China Town or Fisherman's wharf, and DT. It's all so romantic and fun. People are pretty happy that live there, how could you not be in such a beautiful city.

would go back
By ,
We had a late nite check in so the standard room we booked was oversold. We were upgraded to a 1 bedroom 750 sq feet suite. The bed was so comfy. I got food poison from the Tonga Room Restaurant so I stayed in bed all day. The maid were really nice and accomodating. I asked them not to clean my room until the afternoon. When they came, they hurried up so I can go back to the room and rest. I left them a nice tip. When I asked them to bring me more soap, they wouldn't accept another tip from me. The lobby was really relaxing with nice piano music at nite. The service was fabulous. The only thing I didn't like about the room is that the towel are really rough. The heater didn't work. I loved the way the room was decorated, with a lot of Victorian charm. I had a relaxing time sitting in the hotel coffee shop watching the cable car come by while listening to classical music the coffee shop played. I really enjoyed this relaxing stay on Nob Hill. The hotel is just a quick 15 min walk up the hill from Union Square. You can see the beautiful ocean. Our room was in the older tower which can use some paint. The bathroom floor was worn but the room overall was very clean.

Poorly run, only adds stress to your travel
By ,
As frequent travelers we have come to expect a certain base level of customer service from a luxury hotel. Despite its good reviews Fairmont San Francisco fell short of our expectations. Check in went smoothly and the front desk was pleasant. Our room however smelled distinctly of smoke. We always ask for non-smoking rooms so we called the front desk to be sure it was. They informed us that the entire hotel is non-smoking and that they would be moving us to a better room. We were asked to wait in this room for the bell boy who would bring us keys and help us to our new room. The problem was now we were waiting in a room that reeked of smoke. We put our bags by the door and waited. We waited 20 minutes before getting a knock on the door which was house keeping. They had been told the room was vacated and were checking to see it was alright for the next guests. At that point I called down to the front desk. The phone rang and rang. When we did reach a person it was not the front desk and they needed to transfer us. We started to wonder wether the keys on the phone were correctly marked. Upon reaching the front desk the girl was short with us barely listening to our inquiry before snapping, “we are very busy.” As she was moaning that it was probably given to the bell boy and she would have to find out who it was given to... there was a knock at the door. A rushed bell boy who handed me the keys and ran off without helping us with our luggage or showing us to our room. No apology for the delay or for the room. The new room was one floor up and did not smell, but did have a fly circling it. The room also was not finished being cleaned and we were missing towels. We were stressed but merely wanted to wash our face and explore the city so we agreed to stay in this room. The concierge desk was unable to help get us reservations we asked for and seemed to be more interested in their conversations with each other than with helping us. The last straw was when we went to use the fitness facilities our last morning in SF. We woke early to use the pool at the offsite location. Your book reads: There is no swimming pool at the Fairmont San Francisco. Guests wishing to access a swimming facility can visit the Club One location at Yerba Buena. It’s a complete fitness club (same facilities as the Club One in the hotel), except this club also has a lap pool. The club is located 4 minutes from the hotel at 350 Third St. A nominal fee will be charged to our hotel guests. It is complimentary for all hotel guests that are Fairmont Presidents Club members. We called the desk to ask how to get there and what we need to do before we headed that way. The concierge did not know and transfered us to someone else who advised us to stop by the Club One here to get a guest pass. Club One did not know about this program and told us we would be charged 20$ per person to use the other club. The Club One staff told us they are managed by different people and we would have to go talk to Fairmont staff. The staff at the front desk argued that the policy book did not say that. He spoke slowly while explaining to us why we were wrong. He was condescending and inaccurate according to your in room policy book quoted above. We decided to pack our things and be done with Fairmont San Francisco. When checking out we hoped to speak with a manager and brought a copy of the policy for them to see. We again were asked to wait. He was on the phone and unable to speak with us. We were hungry and so we left. We were never called to follow up on our complaints.

Very Noisy
By ,
The rooms are not very insulated for noise. You can hear the room next to you very clearly. When people would shut their room doors, it would make our room shake, like an earthquake. The rooms have very poor noise insulation and you can even hear the t.v in the room next to you. I will never stay there again!

What a Place
By ,
Why would you stay anywehere else?? We we're married during our stay and was upgraded for free, ate breakfast in the Laurel court daily and were made to feel as if we were the only couple in the hotel. We received attention from the staff and we were given a lietime of memories. We walked all over the city and the location is central to all the attractions. Walking up Nob Hill after a few drinks about town can be challenging, but worth it. Take the plunge and get it done. The ONLY negative was $50 per day for parking. So, use the BART or Trolley's or simply the shoe string express. Parking is a bear in the city.

ROUGH TOWELS
By ,
Although the Hotel is beautiful I had a view of the back roof from the Fifth floor.Make sure to request a higher floor. I was thoroughly disappointed in the bathroom towels. Both my daughter and myself used the towels and wash clothes and are faces bled from these very rough linens. Motel 6 has softer towels. Dont forget to add into your budget the $60 parking fee per night for your car,
