I will never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/17/09
My wife and I arrived late in the evening from out of state. We knew the hotel was off the 60 Freeway, but that was all we knew. The hotel was directly off the the freeway; however, the front desk person could not tell us what exit to take. When we finally arrived, we promptly checked in and went to sleep. The next morning, we found nothing spectacular about the continental breakfast. The food appeared to have been left out much like the gallon of store bought milk by the cereal dispenser. Neither the yogurt nor the hard boiled eggs were on ice. It was disgusting. Much like the previous review, we also found ants in the bathroom. The television reception was horrible and reminded me of the days before cable. The WiFi connection didn't seem to work until our second day. Even then, it was slow much like an old dial up 2400 baud modem. The refrigerator didn't seem to work on the first night. I complained about it to the front desk person who seemed annoyed. When I called about it later (not being in the room), it still had not been fixed. Later on the second day, it appeared as though the refrigerator turned on; however, there was never a tight seal inhibiting the use of said machine. On the many rides to and from our floor, we noted that the elevator arm bar (brass) was sticky from some unknown substance. It remained so throughout our stay. Unfortunately, that was not the worst of it. On one particular morning, my wife and I were on our way down the hall to the elevator. We nearly interupted three men in debate over money owed. The debate evolved into a good ole' fist fight. The wife and I, not having any connection with the three men, promptly turned around and found another way downstairs to our horrid continental breakfast. Much to our dismay, when we returned to the room, we noticed blood spatter in the elevator hallway. One wall appeared to require a good spackling. As we turned the corner, two local police officers and two of the three men were having a conversation regarding the recent events. One of the men denied any involvement while the other said he didn't know the other person. Yet, he claimed the other person owed him money. On our last morning, my wife and I ventured off to the continental breakfast one last time. She noted gnats and other insects gathering about on the pastries. She continued to select a bagel in her own stubborn fashion. I promptly refused to eat another breakfast at the hotel. I will never, ever, return to this hotel again. I encourage everyone to choose wisely and take this review to heart. Oh yes, I forgot to mention the wonderful view of the boarded up and graffiti's home just outside the window.

Would NOT recommend it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/16/09
All previous reviews are outdated, this is not a four star hotel in any way. There were several problems that made our stay uncomfortable, for example, the room was not cleaned properly, the comforter was dirty, the bed was not comfortable, there were ants in the bathroom, the carpet wasnt very clean either and the AC was really loud! Something else that was annoying were the squeaky floors!!! we could hear the people upstairs everytime they walked from one side to another. I definitely WOULD NOT STAY there again or recommend it to anyone.

A decent place.
By Ted, 12/3/06
On the positive side, this is a very stylish and well-furnished hotel all things considered. The negative side comes from the "all things considered" part. What I found most problematic was the location. It's a decent facility in the middle of NOWHERE. There is literally nothing to see or do around this hotel. You are nowhere near any of Monterey Parks businesses or attractions. If you have no intention of leaving your room, then you'll probably be fine. Just keep in mind that this place is on the high end of the Best Western price range (you're paying for all those new decorations).

Nice room
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/1/06
My room was clean and got a quieter room facing away from Highway 60. My room was more modern than other BW hotels I stayed, and the Internet connection worked. I did not like the desk clerk photocopying my driver's license and they did not understand my concerns or explained their privacy policy (they probably do not know since they appear to be foreigners). The "fitness room" was very small. This BW charges $3 for the continental breakfast instead of offering it as a complimentary breakfast as most other BW hotels I stayed.

BEWARE !!!!
By VANESSA, 4/5/06
I needed a room for my brother coming in from out town and this property was the closest to my Grandmother's house. I was a walk-in guest so was quoted a room rate of $95 for the night. The clerk gave me the keys to room. 45 minutes later my brother was not going to make into town after all. I went back to the hotel and a different man was at the desk - I explained I didn't nee the room after all (I never stepped foot into the room) and he said I still had to pay the full room rate! When I asked for a manager he claimed to be the manager - when I asked for the General Manager he said she would not be in until the next day. I asked for the corporate number for Best Western and he gave me a fake number. When I called back to the hotel the General Manager answered the phone. I explained what happened and she insisted that I would still have to pay the full amount and that she "felt no guilt in charging me $106.40 for a room I didn't need or use". She began to yell at me when I asked for her corporate number and said I would never get my money back. STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK AND MAKE SURE YOU NEED THE ROOM!!!!

AMAZING! What a nice stay!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/22/05
Wow. This is an amazing hotel. My stay was so pleasant and everything smelt like it was brand new...Even the granite countertops. As I walked in, I expected to pay upwards of $120 for the queen bed but was pleasantly shocked when it was much lower. The staff was so friendly and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. It felt more like the Ritz Carlton than a Best Western.

I can't believe it, this is like a new hotel
By Moon, 8/9/05
What a pleasant surprise. I have not back in Markland for about 6 months. Now it has been completely renovated with new furniture, carpet, paint and décor .I especially enjoy the comfortable bedding. Price is lower than what I would expect for a hotel of this class.
