Americas Best Value Inn, Berkeley

The price on this motel and its location were very good. However, noise from the street, other "guests" outside our room and inside their rooms on the inside square (non-street side), and the guy snoring on the other side of the wall didn't make for a very good night's rest. It is older, but it was clean and comfortable--we weren't there to spend a lot of time in the room anyway.

The ONLY minus was window adjoining the street, which made for a lot of noise. Otherwise cute and comfortable, close to all and a good value.

Location could not be beat. Rooms are not new and not deluxe, but our room was clean and roomy for the price. No pool, but free wi-fi. I have no complaints.

Upon our arrival, the office was closed and we were unable to check in. We had hoped to have a bit of a break so that we could freshen up prior to going to the Greek Theater for a show. Since we were unable to do that, we left our stuff there and called a cab and went to the show. A little after 9pm, I had finally contacted them. They gave us room 111. Upon our arrival, they changed our room to room 116, the last one, which we were now forced to take due to the fact that we could not check in upon our arrival. Our room was a non-smoking, but the gentleman at the front desk gave us some air freshener and warned us that it did not smell good. After finally getting into our room, we found that we desperatly needed the air freshener spray. Later on, we found the remains of a broken crack pipe. I rarely give such a bad rating, but after reading this, I am sure all that do read it will agree that it is justified.

The Golden Bear Inn has a wonderful old California charm to it. The rooms are very clean and the staff is friendly. It is conveniently located to all Berkeley activities and is an excellent value. I will return and would recommend it highly.

The Best Value Inn (aka. Golden Bear Inn) located in Berkely, CA, was the most disgusting and dirty hotel I have ever stayed in. We booked the room online and the website's representation of the room was completely misleading. The room wreaked of cigarettes and was dirty from ceiling to floor. The linoleum in the bathroom was literally stapled to the floor. My fiance cut his foot walking into the bathroom. We had no where else to stay and we ended up leaving our vacation a day early and paying for the night we were supposed to stay. I had to go the store and buy a cleaner to clean the bathroom so it was usable because the front desk failed to send house keeping in a timely manner. On one of the nights a man came to our door at 11 p.m. and asked us for money, the front desk informed us that this man frequently did this yet they did nothing about it. The service was horrible and staff was rude. I will never stay there again and I will not hold back from telling others of the service received.

Me and my brother and sister were a little unsure whether to book a reservation at this motel. We saw these reviews on yahoo and some of them differed a lot from each other. We decided to take a chance because of the low rate. Futhermore, i was visiting Berkely College Campus and it proved to be extremely convenient because it was located so close. When we went into the room we inspected it. It was clean and thats all we really wanted. However, we ordered a rollaway bed because its a good 20 dollars cheaper than a regular bed. They forgot we even ordered one so it took an additional 30 minutes for them to get it into our room. On first look on the rollaway bed it was DISGUSTING. It had bloodstains on it and all this junk. It was torn up and of course u have to lay sheets over it but it wasn't a pleasant thing to rest on. So overall its an O.K. motel for its location BUT DO NOT ORDER A ROLLAWAY!!! (By the way the internet connection did not work in our room. we had to move all the way out back into our car to recieve a connection)

We stayed here during Homecoming Week at Cal. a few years ago. Price is reasonable compared to other hotels in Berkeley. We drove to Bart in El Cerrito and took Bart in and walked to campus. You can also just walk to University and take a bus/shuttle up to campus; it's always advisable to leave your car behind. The room was clean and comfortable, staff friendly and it's nice to be able to park your car right outside the room, (a rarity for hotels in Berkeley). The hotel is right off of 80 and University, but not noisy. We are booking rooms for this year's Homecoming too.

Everything went great. Family booked 5 rooms for all staying at golden bear inn, other than no air cond. (not needed in calif at night), all went well, centrally located, close to anywhere we wanted to go from el cerrito to oakland. several fine restaurants about 1/2 mile away. i will go back next time in the area to visit family.

While attending a class on the Berkeley Campus, I was looking for an affordable clean room. The location was good, close to public transportation, resturants were within walking distance, my room was clean and I was able to get a good night sleep. Staff was friendly and supportive and the price which I used my AAA card was a great value. I will return.
