Poor service (bad staffs)
By Foreign Traveler, 12/16/08
I stayed three nights with my wife and one kid May this year. The hotel was small but clean. However, the hotel staff (front desk) always said "No" or "Impossible" for my requests (Room change, refrigerator). We can see at hotel homepage "Mini-refrigerator based on availability". It was really not avaliable. The hotel staff was not kind to the foreign guest not fluent in English. Today, it is very difficult to find the hotel in the world not kind to the foreign travelers. I don't like to recommend this hotel for the family or foreign travelers.

Brides beware!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/09/08
Came from Indiana for my nephew's wedding. What a disappointment. The pool was closed, and the wedding coordinator was changed without prior notification to the wedding party. Two different people in our party were 'walked in on' because the front desk had given them the wrong key. One person in our party was given the key to someone elses room. I watched the maid clean our drinking glasses and coffee cups with the same glass cleaner she cleaned the mirror with. When I questioned her, she said she used a different 'rag' for the glasses than she used for the mirror. The area near the front elevator constantly smelled like animal urine. There was only one ice machine and then only on one floor. The people at the front desk were indefferent if not rude most of the time. I would not ever come back and would advise others to think carefully before spending my money on a hotel that promises one thing, but delivers another.

Would go back!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night recently and had a really nice experience. The decor was very modern chic, it definately had more personality than other hotels we've stayed at. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the room was clean, they have complimentary valet, and the staff was very nice. The toilet in the first room they had assigned to us was not working but when we called front desk to let them know, they immediately sent someone to check it out, they were very apologetic, assigned us to another room and gave us a bottle of champaign and chocolate covered strawberries for the inconvenience! The hotel restaurant, The Second Floor, was also really good. We had lunch there after checking out of the hotel and were very impressed! The only cons I think are the following: The outside of the hotel is not as attractive, it's a bit pricey (I spent about 200 for one night), and it's not as close to the beach as I was hoping for. I didn't mind the walk to/from the beach though. The hotel is in a really nice and quiet neighborhood and there's a trail that you can take to the beach. The beach is about 1 1/2 away.

Awesome
By GO BEACH, 04/28/08
I've had the chance to stay at the belamar a total of three times. It keeps getting better and better. The hotel has a great trendy look that makes you feel like a million bucks. You get there and the valet welcomes you. ( parking use to cost 18 bucks a night but its now free to guest) when checking in you get fresh cookies and melon iced water.. the hotel has a cool and clean look to it that you will love. The rooms are, well decorated and not boring at all. great balcony view of the courtyard. the best part about the rooms are the king beds, they are hugeand have tons of soft firm pillows , clean sheet , and a great comforter. DVD , mags, awesome soaps and a ipod player are a def plus.. best room service in town bring a friend ;-) Stay at the Belamar for a great stay in LA

More bang for the buck

Summer of 2006 had a tonight stay at the Belamar while honeymooning. Valet service was excellent and quick. Loved the style of the decor especially the cement stone sink in the 1st floor men's room. Love the modern look. Upon checking out of our hotel we received a suprise discount and we ended up paying $160 for a two night stay in a room that usually costs $240. I was sick for one of the nights and the hotel staff was very accomodating. The hotel has a beautiful, relaxing pool and spa area. Also a lovely courtyard for those late evening pda moments. We could not have begun our marriage at a better place. Don't forget to ask for the complimentary CD.

Expected a bit more
By LA Visitor, 01/29/08
Overall the Belamar was ok. It's location and decor are the best things going for it. Located near LAX, right across the street from a shopping center, 5 min from the beach and close enough for day trips to all of LA, the location is great. The decor is modern with retro-kitch feel. Painting size head shots of Barbie dolls adorn the hallways & low volume house music is piped in throughout. The rooms are very cozy although they could be better with a mini fridge. My big neg comments: 1)the lobby and restaurant are closed for construction & no mention was made when we booked (there's no live music or room service either during construction), 2)we stayed on the 3rd floor & the hallway smelled of raw sewage the whole trip 3)the pool area has plenty of lights, but the staff couldn't figure out how to turn them on at night when they were needed 4)the continental breakfast didn't have nearly enough selection 5)the price (comparable to Marriot) was too expensive for what you get. I would consider going back during Summer, but only when everything is up and running and fixed.

Loved it!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/21/07
Not much to dislike, there was road work being done but even that did not make it a bad stay. The restaurant was not open and that again was no big deal. Would recommend this place to anyone. Spoke to one of the local cab drivers one morning who had stopped in for coffee and that turned out to be a be plus to us as he was friendly and provided us with some very valuable info on local things to do. Only thing that was kinda neg. was one time one of the desk people was not real friendly, but beside that one time the place was great and so were the people.

This used to be our favorite place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/07
Wow! This place used to be called Barnabey's (before 2005). It was a quaint European style hotel, like you were at a b&b, Old English pub and all. It was a quite place to go and stay in LA. I felt like I was in Europe every time we would stay here(a nice kept secret). The beds were soft and fluffy and the deco was old world style, but now it's all modern and updated - I guess needed. Nice, but not the cozy European feel I remember. To bad and shame on you Belamar- we have moved from the area and wanted to come back to "our" place to visit. No cozy feeling here and a bit more pricey than before.

What a wonderful experience I had at the Belamar! Service was great and best of all the hotel is close to LAX but not in LAX..so you can enjoy your time off. There are many restaurants and shops....literally across the street. Plus the hote lis gorgeous...well done Belamar!

$18 to park at the hotel???? Come on!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/06
Okay hotel, trendy decor, good location but $18 to park on the premises???? Come on! You have to park on the street otherwise...be careful of parking during street sweeping days...you will get a ticket!
