Not worth the price...for anything!

From the moment we set foot on the property we were disappointed. The entry was so dark and non-distinct, that I thought we were in the wrong location. The door staff was either absent or minimally manned. The lobby, and the rest of the public areas, all appeared to have seen better days. It appeared the Ahwahnee was once considered a grand hotel, but by modern standards, it's now only a run-of-the-mill 2 star hotel. I've had better accomodations at a Best Western (and they usually provide breakfast). Everything is over-priced, and the rooms, grounds, and public areas are in dire need of modernization. It's as if they built this great hotel in the 20's and then let it just stagnate - with no upgrades, no improvements, or addition of amenities. The restaurant was attractive, but pretentious and very expensive. The breakfast buffet was good, but about double what it was worth. Service was just adequate. Rooms were small for a so-called "luxury" hotel, and the fixtures were old, worn, and in need of updating. The pool was small, and underused.
In a phrase, the Ahwahnee was NOTHING SPECIAL.
