Not what it seems
By ,
My companion and I spent 5 nights at the hotel and the stay was enjoyable. However, the property is clearly not five star. Probably,it was 5 star back when the hotel was built, perhaps in the 60's,but it is not now. I am rating as 3 stars(average) because 2 stars (poor) would not be accurate. The suites are spacious but the decor consists of old dark brown furniture and dark brownish carpet. The grounds are reasonably well kept, especially in the area of the Falls but they are not spiffy. There is an absolutely beautiful restaurant with incredible views of the valley but it is not used to its best advantage. We arrived at Friday and we were told that it was booked that night and that it was not available for the next night due to a private function and the two nights after that as well,as it is closed Sundays and Mondays! Also it is closed for breakfast and lunch, though it is prominently featured on the hotels web site. Just as pointed out by other reviewers, the staff is friendly but it seemed ineffective when a disgusting "accident" took place. It took them for ever to remove poop from both the pool and the hot tab. More disturbingly, the water was not change even for the tab! (Interesting question for those of us that use tabs: What is the general policy of hotels re. such accidents?)

Very dissappointing
By ,
Checked in on Sunday, July 4, and parking was hellish with mobs of people everywhere. There's no WiFi fyi and our room smelled like stale smoke, but otherwise was clean. We immediately got ready to head to the pool, and because we were in a building on the opposite end from the large pools we dialed 15 for a pickup. They said they would be there right away, which turned into never, so we walked to the pool. Once inside there were crowds of people and no available seats, so we waited for some lounge chairs to vacate. It took well over 45 minutes for any server to approach us, and after ordering our drinks it took almost an hour to actaully receive them. As the server dropped off the drinks we immediately ordered more and two baskets of wings and one basket of frys for three of us. An HOUR later the server dropped off the drinks with no food. We reminded the server about our food to which he responded "someone else must've taken it." He put the order back in and brought the wings 20 minutes later, but no frys. It took 15 more minutes for the frys to come, although the wings had frys with them so I know the server just forgot that part of the order. After not wanting to deal with our server any more I went to the bar to order some drinks and the female bartender completely ignored me helping gentelman on each side of me and passing by me multiple times to help others, when one of the men, a stranger to me, had to tell the bartender to help me. The breakfast buffet left little to be desired with mediocre food and non-attentive service, and had the Head Honchos of Hilton eaten here it definitely would NOT have been up to standard. We ended up spending three times the cost of our room in extras that were well below Hilton standards, and as a Hilton Rewards member I would not stay here again based on the service alone.

Disapointed
By ,
We stay at a lot of Hilton Properties, I can honestly say this was the first time some one put a finger up to have me wait at the HHonors desk. We did get our room when we got there and since I feel INTERNET SHOULD BE FREE I could not check my email from my room and by the way earlier some one said internet was $12.95 that is if you want highspeed (10mb) if you can call it that and dial up is $10.95, and the guys that said you are charged for everthing except sleep, well I am sure they are trying to figure a way to charge for that as well. I went to Pizza hut and great little cafe just north of the resort called PINKY'S and give pizza hut 4 stars and that was after they dropped my pie. compared to what Hilton is doing to people, oh my point I would travel 20 miles to spend my money just so I did not have to give them any more of it. I dont think there are words to express how dissapointed I am. so the direction I got to get to the place took us through some kind of getto the entertainment was watching crazy hookers at 10 am screaming at the gas station.

My wife and I have stayed here quite a bit. It's a great place for family and kids. Thong friendly at the adult pool. Food is kinda pricey for what you get.

Really slipping! We used to love it but-
By ,
Summer rates bring in the "weekend warriors" so the occupancy rate was high. If you are a discriminating guest, you will be disappointed. This has been a favorite resort of ours for over 20 years but it is no longer clean and well maintained as it once was. There was an antiseptic odor like a economy rate motel when you entered the room. Our showerhead would not stay in position and the fawcet valve was so stiff I got scalded trying to adjust it. There were 5 old cigarette butts between the elevator and our room, barking dogs in next room @ 11pm, dog feces 4 ft from our room door. The next morning I went to the pool to enjoy my coffee and noticed towels, beer cans & bottles around the pool from night before. It was over 20 minutes wait in line in lobby for a coffee refill. (No complimentary coffee; the sign said $2.75 but the cost was $3.50 -"resort tax" I was told"). The beer cans, etc were still untouched by the pool when we checked out just before noon. The parking was so scarce and constricted that if you have a full size car you must take a ride in a golf cart up the steep incline to the room (after a reasonable wait, of course). The staff was very cordial and efficient, I will say and they helped find another more suitable Hilton property when we checked out 3 days early.

Great Family Vacation-would go back!
By ,
We took our 3 of our kids, 15, 12 and 8 and had a GREAT time. I heighly recommend this place for an unusual and quality experience. It was definitely a good deal as we booked it through Yahoo travel and made a package of it. Never have done this before and it worked out great. This is a slow part of the year so there were not any crowds and the weather was unusally warm, so, it was perfect. The room was a suite with two rooms, two queen beds and a fold out queen couch. Perfect to fit a family of 5. We requested to be near the pools so it was easy walking to get there every day. The pools are amazing and numerous so you will never be bored. Pools are warm and huge so we spent lots of time in the water, using the cool slide and lounging on one of the many beautiful deck areas. Lots of hot tubs which we liked. The landscape and location in Phoenix are perfect for those who like to hike, which we did. Located right in the middle of North Mountain recreation preserve there is plenty of hiking and great vistas and scenery. Real Arizona nature and beautiful. There is great food on premises although pricey as expected. Quality was very good. Within easy reach are many restaurants and supper market to get inexpensive foods to save money and time. Resort staff was very friendly and helpful for suggestions and directions. Grounds are beautiful and definitely a resort property. We love unusual places so the hillside terrain was not an issue for us or the narrow lanes within the resort. Made it very European feeling. There is a charge for using the on-premises computers. Cheesy in my opinion as most places offer it for free. Beside that, there are no negatives and we would go back for sure if we had the chance.

Loved it!
By ,
The service was impeccable, this place is huge and all of the service people were very friendly and accomodating. The room had pillow top beds and feather pillows to die for. My family and I slept like babies. The many pools (8 in all) were well maintained and fun for the kids. There were many things to do and we just had a fabulous time. We will go back again. I normally don't write reviews but prior to our reservation I was almost disuaded by some of the poor reviews. As it turns out, the poor reviews were probably from the spoiled, whiners of the world that are never happy with anything.
