Great but staff could smile

This was a great location for our trip - not a great part of town but close to where we wanted to be. I wish we'd known to ask for a "courtyard view". Instead we were on a parking lot of an old strip center. We were within a very short walking distance of the courtyard which was very pretty and nice to walk through with a pool, trees, birds (they do need to keep up with cleaning bird droppings better). The room was clean and had a jacuzzi tub which was nice. We had a microwave and fridge which was great. The continental breakfast was very good (make your own waffles). Beware: the woman working the area starts cleaning up right at 9:30 whether you are grabbing for a muffin or not so get there early. The staff was very efficient but not overly warm or helpful as in the case of the breakfast attendant. I wanted to talk to the front desk clerk about my in-laws staying there (thought they'd love it) and she only gave me "yes" "no" answers (no smiling allowed). I'd still recommend this especially to older retirees - there was a group staying there and they looked like they had a great time. We were a family with 2 kids (age 8 & 11) so maybe they aren't as thrilled to have families - not sure. The restaurant/bar was closed for remodeling but did have a sign indicating there was not a non-smoking section and no kids without adult supervision.
