Never go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/11
The shower water kept switching from hot to cold, could not take a shower. The Bar and Restaurant were shut down for a party which is fine but the could have told me when I made the reservations or when I checked in.

Food could have been Better
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/5/11
Did not stay at the hotel, but did try the restaraunt for breakfast after bailing on the hotel I stayed at. Food was poor-to-good. Had the chicken fried steak and it was very overdone, but I did choke it down. Good atmosphere and quaint. Not busy, and the waitress was very friendly and nice. Food was served quickly, hot, and average priced for the area. Not the best breakfast I have had, but I may try it again someday. View was good, and the old timers in the place made it feel welcome.

Its not a dump.
By Adam H, 8/23/08
As you pull up the exterior of the hotel is dated and not very appealing. When you enter however it is quite nice. The staff were polite and helpful when needed. The Prospector was apparently remodeled, however when the work was done they forgot to insulate the walls. Everything can be heard through the walls from toilets flushing, Television programs, ALARM Clocks and phones vibrating on the desk in the room above you. The rooms are spacious and nice until you begin looking closer. Dust, lint on the walls, random human body hairs and the occasional stained sheet. The hotel does have WiFi and ethernet ports in the rooms as long as its not 205. The green couch from where I'm writing this review is quite comfortable. I get perfect reception from it, even though its only 25' from my room and the front desk. I'm assuming the owner was the one that asked me if the internet was working and where I was because he came back down and talked to the front desk who informed him that it was working but the Linksys router on one of the floors might need a new ethernet cable. Cable TV w/HBO is provided. My cable box was faulty and the picture would freeze every five minutes, very annoying when trying to relax after a long day. Walking through the basement (1st floor) to the parking lot shows alot of exposed wires and open access boxes. The restaurant is fair. Service can be slow at times and the food is fair to good. Prices, like everything else are not so good. There is no pool or gym facilities.

Terrible Customer Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/19/07
When we flew into the Juneau airport...we called the Prospector Hotel to send their advertised free shuttle. When we called we were informed that the free shuttle was not working. So we got a taxi and spent over $20 in fare prices. When we got to the hotel and asked if that would be reimberssed...the clerk rolled her eyes at us and said it wasn't her problem. The next morning we had to take another taxi and pay over $20 again to get back to the airport. We got to our room and filled out a comment card on the way we were treated. Never had we been contacted for an apology or at least an acknowledgment that we had been been wronged.

Better than Expected
By C, 6/1/07
Room was huge, with a sitting area, two closets and a view of the water. Front desk staff left something to be desired. Restaurant (only had breakfast there) was mediocre. Convenient shuttle from the airport. Good location - walking distance of many restaurants. Alaska Museum next door is very interesting. Rate was comparatively reasonable for Juneau in the summer we thought.

Repeat customer!
By Bob, 11/25/05
We've stayed twice, in 2001 and 2004. The service and accomodations improved after the remodel. Our last room was huge, and spotless. Nice view of Douglas from our 3rd floor non-smoking room. The on-premises restaurant is decent, and is popular. The location is great, most days we just walked downtown, and the car was parked inside, so when it rained you kept dry. We'll stay at the Prospector again on our next trip!

Smoky and dirty
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/1/05
I will try and be positive - the location is very convenient and I was able to park with no problems whatsoever. Having wi-fi is a nice bonus. Having said that - I'll never go back. My "run of the house" room was in the basement. Instead of a "stunning view of the bay" I looked at grass and barbed wire. The hallways reeked from smoke and the carpets were so dirty that I wouldn't even consider walking barefoot in my room.

How much can you gouge your guests for?
By Robert, 5/23/05
I don't know where to start here. The cost of rooms during the summer season is so high, anyone visiting here will do much better to find a chain hotel somewhere else. The hotel is located in the downtown area and is convienent for business travelers. The staff don't seem to take their jobs very seriously, and the general manager runs the place like it's a personal kingdom. The restraunt is over priced, the food is medicore, and the service is lukewarm at best. All in all, I wouldn't suggest this hotel to anyone other than the business class traveller who will be spending most of their time away from the premesis.
