Starhotels Michelangelo Firenze, Florence

This was avery disappointing experience. The first night at 11 pm. a horrific smell of sewage entered our room. We both had dry heaves. This odor was followed by exhaust fumes from the trucks that were pumping the sewage from the hotel for at least 2 hours!!!! The room faced the main road and was very noisy. At midnight my sister went to tell the desk that we could not tolerate the sewage odor. The staff coldly replied that it was "a necessary evil". The next evening we had our room changed. On the day of our departure, the staff failed to ring our rooms with the wake up call we requested the previous evening.We nearly missed our flight that day as we got up late.The staff had told us not to worry about getting to the Florence airport more than 1 hour ahead. That was a huge mistake. They told us the lines were short and there was no security check. This was grossly incorrect.The procedures at the airport were not at all what they told us. On the morning of our departure we asked for a cab for 5 to the airport. It was 5;30 am and all 5 of us were standing in the lobby with our luggage when the hotel staff called the taxi. The taxi arrived and informed us that they could only take 4 persons. When we wentt back into the hotel to ask for a larger cab the staff was annoyed,rude and told us we had to take the cab that was there because he already called it. We had to call an additional cab doubling our expense because we had no time to waste .This as an expensive hotel with the most arrogant and inefficient staff I have ever met.It was located too far from the center. Avoid it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
