Failed to come close to expectation.

Hotel Majestic....where do I start. This was not my first trip to rome, hopefully not my last, I love the city. Even the area where this hotel sits, Via Veneto, is situated in a nice location. Our experience at the hotel was downright awful though.
My wife and I went there on our honeymoon. Our 1st day, we were able to check in early. Our bellhop was the only decent person we met there...he kindly took us to our room, and then showed us the complimentary buffet and suggested we try it. After travelling for 18 hours we were excited at the thought of food outside of aiplane pretzels so we obliged. After eating one small basket of rolls(4) and jam, as well as 2 coffees, we were presented a bill for 80 Euro($130). We asked why, and were told that despite it being "complimentary" and our bellhop suggesting it, as well as telling the waitor we were there for the complimentary breakfast, we were not entitled to it until the second day. Personally I wouldnt have cared were it told to me up front, but the opposite happened and the restraunt manager refused to take off the bill. The staff was at best incosiderate, and at other times much worse. We're quiet people, very excited about seeing the city, but despite our best efforts to be friendly, we felt the staff treated us with an chip on their shoulder the entire time.
We stayed there for 4 nights, and enjoyed having a one euro toast and cheese breakfast down the street the next 4 days instead of going back in there. On our last night, we had done some shopping and brought back some crystal jewelry. Typically we would use the safe, but we forgot this time and left it out. It was only worth about 60 euro and wasnt a huge concern. That being said, after leaving for one hour and coming back, our room had been turned down, the bag with jewelry had been moved to a different area of the room, and a necklace was missing! It wasnt the money obviously, since we paid 6 times the worth of the necklace nightly to stay there, but more how the hotel manager handled it next. We never accused anyone of stealing, we were hoping it had just been lost. Despite that, the manager brought two maids into our room and yelled at them in italian as they tried to search through the entire place. You could tell they were angry at us and made a few choice remarks towards us in italian(I speak it). This lasted over 30 minutes, and by the time they left(and finding nothing), our room was a mess.
The manager told us to leave the empty jewelry box for insurance claim purposes and that we would hear back within a few days. Two months later, we never heard back, have never had a returned phone call or email. They did take off the $130 breakfast roll and internet fee($25 for one night), but never followed up on our lost merchandise.
Fortunately the rest of our trip was wonderful once we left this very frustrating and unprofessional experience.
