Marcella Royal Hotel, Rome

We will freely admit to being rather picky,but could not fault this fabulous hotel.Spotlessly clean and professionally managed.Rooms were immaculate and comfortable,service provided was faultless,staff pleasant and obliging.Breakfast was outstanding ,really great variety of delicious food.Roof top garden a peaceful beautiful place to relax in. Walking distance to places of interest about 15minutes, local taxis reasonable rates.Bus and metro available from airport,we chose a taxi to go direct,negotiate price at airport around 40 euro,but well worth it .

My wife and I have just returned from a four day break in Rome. This was a return trip following a three day break in February in an average hotel. So we decided we wanted the best hotel we could find without busting the bank before Christmas. The Marcella Royal was our eventual choice and we can only say it is a wonderful place to stay. It's ten to fifteen minutes walk with a suitcase from the Termini. (A small point here, the Roman high kerbs and cobblestones destroyed the wheels on my suitcase which was already battered by the Rome airport baggage vandals). On entering the hotel our first impression was positive. The place looked well kept and sharp with an old fashioned air of quality. We were greeted by very friendly staff at reception and within five minutes we were shown to our room. There are two elevators/lifts. The room wasn't big but it was ample for the two of us. It was made up and spotlessly cleaned daily. The shower was over the bath. There was ample (very) hot water. The shower itself almost took your skin off if you turned it on fully. There was also a hairdryer provided along with toiletries, soap shampoo etc. The room had air-conditioning and adjustable lighting. The fittings, fixtures and decor were of good quality with plenty of chrome and mirrors. There was a TV and mini-bar. The hotel was fairly busy but we never once heard a single noise from any of the rooms around us. There was ample hanging space and drawers in the fitted wardrobe which also contained the small but useful safe for passports etc. The bed was a king-size with a beautifully firm mattress on which we slept like logs. The bar and breakfast room are on the roof terrace which gives a great view over Rome. Breakfast was good and the bar pleasant for a last drink before turning in. The staff were always helpful and polite. The Marcella Royal isn't central but we walked to the Colosseum, around it, then spent the rest of the day roaming the Forum and Palatine Gardens, then walked back. Our feet ached but it was worth it. We didn't try the hotel restaurant for our evening meal preferring to try a different one each night within walking distance of which there are loads. However the menu seemed good. We intend to return to Rome in the New Year and will book straight into the Marcella Royal because we know it's perfect for us.

This wonderful hotel in eternal Rome was absolutely perfect. The staff was very accommodating, the room spotless, the view from the terrace beautiful and the service excellent. Upon our return to Rome, this is the hotel will we choose.

Very clean room and bathroom. Early in the morning, taking breakfast on the terrace on the 7th floor with great view on the city and flowers all over the place, was a sensational start of each day. The hotel is not so far from the centre but quite enough to relax at the end of a busy day. Tip: if you don't feel like walking in the evening try the restaurant Anni Cinquanta, just on the corner: very good italian food at cheap prices.

Lovely decorated hotel with spotless bathrooms. The rooms are not all very spacious, but at least they are so tasty and colourful that make your day. Management and receptionists are very helpful, I give hotel staff a 10!!! (Five stars). The roof terrace is a big surprise, you'll love it. It is almost perfect! What makes me a little sceptical is the fact that I found it a bit overpriced for the facilities provided and moreover it is a little distant, especially at night you become very aware of it, mostly because the streets around empty in the afternoon and you feel a little cut off from the rest of the city. Metro is something you shouldn't consider of using after dark and the buses which stop around have not very fixed schedules, something really annoying. Of course this has nothing to do with the hotel itself, I am just trying to prepare some of you who love walking downtown, that taxis will end up being your every day 'sightseeing'. I'd really love to have a car next time, so I would definitely stay again at the "Marcella Royal", and -yes -I would ask them for a bigger room.
