BEST WESTERN Hotel Cavalletto E Doge Orseolo, Venice

if your only going to be in venice for a short while - this is the place! its not over the top price wise - but it is charming. we had a room that overlooked the canal - for less than 130 us$ is was truly walking distacne to san marco square - and if ouve never been to venice - its very easy to get lost - so having a hotel so close to a landmark is a big plus. we might be going back for a night or two this april - and we will try to stay here again.

Location is excellent to St. Marks Square. Only complaint Gondola station very noisy all night long. Rooms are very clean and nicely kept. We loved Venice and are looking to go back again in 5/07.

I could not believe that when we arrived at this hotel, the desk clerk did not even greet us with a hello! He was the least friendly person we encountered in our 11 day trip throughout Italy. The first room we were shown was tiny, and had an odd odor in the bathroom, and was behind the elevator. For the price, iti was not really acceptable. Since the air conditioning didn't work, even though the same clerk came up to the room, and claimed it did, we were given a beautiful room in the new wing and it was lovely. What a difference. All other staff in the hotel were fine but our initial encounter was not pleasant.

Fantastically located right next to St Marks, you can catch the big sights before the big queues start. Our party tock 2 rooms, one having a canal view one not, however we had a view of a court yard which turned out to much quiter in the mornings than the view of the canal basin with all the associated gondla activity. The service varied, our welcome by the conseage on our first day was very poor, however this was not matched by many other staff members, but perhaps it is just the northern Italian attitute in general - service always seemed to be better (in the hotel and venice generally) if you at least tried to speak italian. The hotel did feel small and friendly (the bar man was very entertaing and easy going) The decor in the reception was kind of 70's but with a venitian frill, the rooms were fresh and relaxed, while the bathrooms were neet and compact, but every thing was very clean. Some tips - Water Taxis can not always come to the door of the hotel so check before you book one, it depends upon the tide - when St Marks is flooded you can not gain access directly from the square as you normally can, but you will find access via numerous backstreet routes. - Our Laugage arrived two days after our flight from london, this is not unusual, so if you can, take cabin laugage only. Our laugage caught up with us at 9pm, so when the hotel say nothing after 4pm there is still hope.

We visited Venice to celebrate our 30th Wedding anniversary...travelling as a party of 6 with our Children and Partners.. age range 22yrs - 53yrs. The Hotel has a prime location,in the heart of St Marks Square, Gondolas passing the reception window...what more could you ask for ! Strolling back to your hotel each evening with music in the background....quite magical. Facilities all very clean, all staff friendly, efficient, and polite....what more could you ask for....excellent breakfast, we can't wait for a return trip. Thank You..

The Best Western Cavalletto and Doge Orseolo Hotel in Venice is very conviently located just steps away from San Marco. The breakfast room is lovely and the breakfast buffet offers a great deal of variety. Staff members were always pleasant and helpful. Our room was a little small, but still comfortable. Overall a good choice when vacationing in Venice!
