Terrible
By ,
Our room was filthy. Cobwebs in the corner and at the ceiling. The rugs were a disgrace. You could not walk barefoot on them. The walls were all marked and I got bites all over me during the night. The food was terrible and the noise from the park at night was the worst. Screaming went on until 3:00 or 4:00 am.

Don't stay here!
By ,
Hotel has very poor service. We stayed 2 nights. Both evenings the bar was unaccesible to guests as it was full of wedding receptions. The excersise area is very outdated. There are better choises in the area.

A Wonderfull place to stay ...
By ,
I was there for two nights and had a great time. The location, service, was excellent from check in to departure. A grand old place with up dated rooms and food was excellent as well. I would strongly suggest a stay at this hotel and when I come back to the old sod I would stay again.

The Terrible Meyrick
By ,
This stay was a complete disaster. The service was atrocious - unfriendly, inefficient, unprofessional staff. Apparently its the norm to have your room cleaned at 5pm in the evening and be told to "wait in the hallway" The waiter "nudged" my chair during dinner and said "Move that" nodding to a pitcher of water - just two of the many unpleasant things that happened to our party over the weekend. Would NEVER stay there again - a complete Faulty Towers imitation! Oh, and with the ongoing construction work, the lifts are not working and the bar will be closed on certain days..great!

Gorgeous - only one glitch!
By ,
This hotel was fabulous in appointment, comfort and service. Unfortunately it's in the city and is a converted (old!) building and plumbing and other-guest noise can't be avoided. The rooms vary WIDELY - you can get a fabulous suite type room or a closet, so be clear what you require when you book. (Singles who get a small room should not pay a supplement or should get a full-size room for their euros.) The shower in our room was SHALLOW but the shower head put out a LOT of water, so those of us who wash our hair, put on conditioner and then wash our bodies, then wash out the conditioner have to turn the water off a few times to let the water drain in between! The bathroom had both a shower and a bathtub - lovely. The lifts are slow; our tour party inundated the staff and it took a long time to get it all straight, but I do recommend staying here if you like city hotels. I prefer staying just outside the city, but wouldn't miss seeing this place!

Great Location , but noisey at night
By ,
Very conveniently located jay at the edge of the city centre very close to the train station. The Hotel advertises it's rooms as having either a view of Eyre Square (not really that great to look at , just a basic little park)or a panoramic view of Galway Bay , but the view of the bay is behind the Bus and train station which takes up most of the panorama. Also there is an unrelated night club behind the hotel which is very loud until 2:30am, Ireland has Banned smoking in all public places (indoors) so crowds from the night club smoke outside so from the Hotel you can hear the music (really old and cheesy) and the drunk patrons shouting and singing as they go outside to smoke. The Night Manger was very young and apologetic and called the club but there was not much he could do. The Hotel facilities were good and we enjoyed the outdoor hot tub and the steam room was basic and clean. Internet access from the Hotel rooms was 5 euros and hour and its hard to read e-mail on a TV screen , the internet computer in the hotel reading room cost an incredibly 16 Euro per Hour!!! , the average rate in the internet cafe's in town is just 2 Euro an hour. Some Staff were very friendly and others seemed indifferent.

Merci encore ... laurent.freiburger@tiscali.fr

A stay to forget!
By ,
The park acroos from the hotel was being redon and therefore the room with a view, which I requested could not be fufilled. Futhermore, every time I returned to the hotel from a day of sightseeing the staff questioned if I should "be" in the hotel. The last straw was when the fire alarm went off at 3am and we were shipped out to other hotels the next day where we had to wait 2 more hours for a new room. Did I mention this was my honeymoon. Thanks for nothing Great Southern.
