Would stay there again.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/2/08
Loved the location. The ambiance of the hotel was warming and the gentleman helping with the baggage on the door very polite and friendly. Breakfast delicious. Room clean and spacious. However, the heating system was very noisy in the room and we were charged £9.90p for 2 very plain coffees in the reception!! Not something I would rush to have again. Our water in the bathroom was not hot but on informing them of this a janitor appeared as if by magic! So cannot complain. Overall, a lovely stay at the hotel and would very much recommend it to anyone who doesn't need coffee!

This hotel is situated nicely in Russell square which has alot of activities in the vicinity. However, due to the recent bombings, the Underground tube in Russell square has been closed down for repairs making trips by underground train anywhere (especially to Heathrow airport) a mess. The hotel is still in the process of renovating & the accomodations appear nice & appealing & the rooms are decently sized. However, we went during the summer when it can get somewhat warm during the day. The a/c units appear fairly new & in no form of disrepair yet none of them worked. It became unbearably hot in our room after the heat from the bathroom shower filled the bedroom. I complained to a somewhat unsympathetic front desk & instead of being offered another room, we were told a fan would be brought up to us. It was a cool night & had the windows NOT been bolted down, we could have been comfortable. A porter came to our room & agreed that the room was hot & he also was unable to open the windows. We were then offered another room by the front desk - this room was 2 rooms down with a non-working a/c unit also. However, the windows could be pried open & were given a fan. It was tolerable but not up to par with the high praise that was given on other reviews. This place would be nice to stay in during the cold or cooler months BUT I would NOT recommend to stay here during the summer.

Classic Lodging in London
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/16/04
With tube stops close by, the Hotel Russell is convenient to almost anywhere in London as well as the UK and Europe. The service is first rate and all of the employees we encountered were happy to serve. Directly across from the British Museum and located in a bustling area of London, it is without a doubt a superb choice for a hotel when staying in London for travellers wishing for ease of use and for its outstanding amenities. Two bars and a restaurant make it a good location to entertain clients as well as unwind after a day of business or sightseeing. The Hotel Russell gets our vote as a superior choice for lodging in London. The rooms feature cable TV, full baths, and all the features modern travellers look for. They were clean, well cared for and if any problems arise, there is a staff waiting to satisfy every need. The lobby to the Hotel Russell, is in the grand style of premier hotels when such establishments were more than places to park one's suitcase and shower. Cookie cutter hotels can be found for a dime-a-dozen, but the Hotel Russell exhibits character that has been long since lost on the masses looking for the cheapest rooms available. The value far outweighs the cost when staying at the Hotel Russell. We will definitely stay at the Hotel Russell on our next trip to London.
