EL Dorado Hotel All Inclusive, Cartagena

There was no air conditioning in the lobby, just for starters. The elevators barely worked. After seeing our supposed to be room, it was small, hot, damp and stuffy, I asked to get another room, when they finally decided to show us another room, it also had no air conditioning, so after 2 ½ hours and demanded to be changed to a different hotel. STAY AWAY. We went to the Cartegena Plaza, it was better but the food was absolutely terrible ! And prepare to be harassed NON-STOP by beach vendors. All in all our holiday in Cartegena, Colombia will be one to remember ! never go back !

upon entering what we thought was an elegant lobby, we had no idea this is where they had blown the budget. the meager selection of included buffet meals was atrocious mid-week. It only slightly improved at the weekend, and I think this was more because it was actually still warm. My favorite thing about visiting columbia is the fresh juices and awesome coffee. Don't expect it here. coffee was old and over heated, juice I believe had to have been reprocessed powder with pulp added. We had continous problems with the front desk from lost prepaid reservations, forgotten requests for clean sheets and towels, to missed transportation from faulty information given.We also had our young neice with us(mid teen)who constantly was being shadowed by the hormonal bellhops. And plan on taking the stairs; the elevators took forever,skipped floors and occasionally even had space to get in. If being the only choice left....go to Santa Marta.

The place is like a high security installation, so if you have a friend in the city or at another hotel, s/he cannot visit (the plus side, I guess, is that you do not have to worry about intruders at all). The food is nothing to brag about, but you are paying for it anyway, since it is included. But at least you get to enjoy it in an un-air-conditioned dining hall! This place should've been bulldozed a decade ago. STAY AWAY. Stay at the Hilton, Americana or Cristofer Colombo, all very good. And prepare to be harassed NON-STOP by beach vendors, unless you are at the Hilton's private beach or plan on hanging by the pool. Also, eat your meals in the old city--Bellisimo, for one, and the one across from the old church, which has the same name as the church.
