Had A Blast!!!
By ,
This was our first trip to the D.R and although the hotel is not as fancy as some others we had no complaints at all. The staff was great, drinks were great and food was good. I would love to go back but heard it closed down!

paradise baby!!!!
By ,
Being a young couple on our first holiday abroad, we were hoping this would be the perfect holiday. After reading so many bad reviews we were unsure of what to expect, however we were very pleased when we saw the hotel; after a very long journey. we were very pleased with everything the hotel had to offer. The staff were all friendly and could speak in many different languages, always willing to help in any situation. The beach was absolutely gorgeous. one of the highlights of our holiday was watching the sunset with a drink, it was truely stunning. there was also a really lovely beach restaurant for lunch, of which the views were beautiful. the pool was so much better than in the pictures advertised, it was very clean and well looked after. there were various activities to participate in during the afternoon and in the night.very funny to watch. For the day time there was a large choice of trips to adventure on. such as the quad-bikes and the many boat trips available on offer.Catalina island is a definate must, the uninhabbited island was paradise. this is a brilliant destination which we would recommend to everyone.

Phenomenal!!!
By ,
It's a very affordable for big and low income families. The food it's delicious and plenty of it. Service & cleanliness it's ok. Since is a family resort there's a lot of noise and too crowded. Over all is just despite there's no luxury. The entertaiment & shows are just great!!!

Worst resort
By ,
It was terrible, I will never go back to this hotel I don't recommend this to anybody. The bathroom was full of mold, inside the tub and on the walls of the bathroom, the rooms were very small, the lunch and dinner were horrible. I can make a better buffet than then. The staff was no friendly at all. There was no communication within the staff, very rude. Is not worth going,I'am sure that the other hotels in the area are better. I was suppost to stay for 3 days, but when I saw the disorganization and the quality of the rooms and service we left the next day. One more thing the bathroom near the pool are didn't even had light. It was a disaster. And is very sad because this is my country and I now people from many parts of the world has high standars about what can they find in Dom Rep and let me tell you this hotel does not make any justice at what our country is about. They need more management. Johanna

Beautiful resort and excellent service
By ,
We are british and we have been to the Talanquera twice. We also plan to return next year. Does this tell you something ? Yes we love the place the food is excellent and always fresh and hot, the staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are very clean and comfortable. All in all it is a wonderful place to relax for a couple of weeks. So take no notice of the American reviews posted. They just love to moan and bring down anything not connected with 'Good ole uncle sam'.

A SMALL CHANGE BUT NICE
By ,
this resort was ok .. The people were nice. The food blend really needs to improve specially for people who are diabetics/dieting. one thing is that the locals come in the weekends and too crowded very loud. the rooms were clean, roomy, the pillow should be medium size. Also make sure that you get water(beverages) yourself they do not refill for you. some amenties are not included. You must pay! I enjoyed my time stay. My daughter loved it so did my husband we would like to go back hoping that there are somes changes. The local vendors due annoy. They come up to you every 2 minutes just when you are about to close your eyes to rest not good at all! One thing is that is a nice resort just a small change... The food, amenties must be true if it is all inclusive!, more activities for the children as well for the adults.

Worst Resort in DR thus Far BY FAR!
By ,
Near to the Airport is a Plus. 500 Building is a plus. Other than that - Nada. The food was very bland and no variety all week. Not at all American 'cept for the French Fries - which we had all week. The beach was rough - rocks and shells on beach. Sea water was beautiful but alot of sea-weed. Vendors eventually become very annoying after day 2 constantly pestering to buy their wares even after you have bought them. Hotel allows "outsiders" to enter resort at weekend for discount which I did not like. If you are lucky to get building 500 - you must cross a public road to get to food, show and pool area. Can be quite busy and very dangerous if you have young children. Entertainment shows were terrible - even our children did not like. Beer at Poolside was terrible and many of us got sick. very sulfer like smell. The bed is terribly uncomfortable most especially the pillows and they absolutely stank! If you arrive prior to 3pm - you are required to pay an additional cost to use the facilities. The Italian restaurant - which is inclusive is nice. The "French" restaurant has an additional surcharge of $21 - don't bother! Lets say - Filet Mignon is Filet Ox! I am glad we travelled as a group - 27 of us and def. made the best of the situation. We made many friends there also. Would not recommend this hotel at all to anyone! 4th Time in DR. Will never come back to this resort again.

We won't be returning
By ,
What we like.....close to the airport in Santo Domingo. The Italian restaurant is great...!!! That's pretty much it. We read the reviews and decided that the people writing them were too picky. They weren't. The arrival was tough, mainly because no one at the front desk spoke much english. When we found someone who did, he gave us a short form to fill out, and we waited an hour and a half for him to do something with it. We requested a room on the beach in the 500 building, per the reviews, this was the first and last thing that worked out for us. The room was nice enough, but....the phoe didn't work, we couldn't get the water in the fridge replaced and the bed was awful. No one ever fixes the items you ask be fixed. The pool area is nice also. Though there is not enough seating, or ar staff. The beach is kept very clean. The sand is very rocky. Not like heavy grains of sand, but rocks. Good sized rocks that are very unexpected. My first walk down the beach resulted in several painful cts to both feet that hindered the rest of the week. As the weekend approached, and we planned to relax the last couple of days of our trip. We found the biggest surprise was yet to come. For some reason, the Barcelo management sells day and weekend passes to the local residents, who show up by the hundreds.....literally. They are nice enough people to be sure, but the huge number of additional guests makes, sunning, swimming, eating, drinking, and sleeping, very tough. Relaxing is impossible. A young couple described the weekend as "the biggest high school party ever". I would agree. We met many people from all over the world there and no one we met had ever been there before. No one they had met had ever been there before and no one was planning on returning. please.......please......think long and hard about traveling here to relax. We have been to several other places in th Carribean and this is the only one we wouldn't return to.

March 2006 spring break
By ,
Beautiful hotel, rooms not as beautiful as the rest. Food is the same every single day, learn to love red beans and rice. All in all, a great deal for a beautiful vacation. * Saona Island day trip MADE the vacation, so make sure you look into that when you go.
